NSL Insider - Premium: Week 9 - Who's Moving?

Week 9 Trade Rumours Whos moving houses?

Every year it comes to this time of the season when everyone, well, the trade happy members of the league, are all waiting for the FAs of the past summer all become unlocked for trading, in Week 9. Deals have been locked away for even weeks by this stage, waiting for the unlocking and the movement. This year is no exception. Theres a number of big names already rumoured to be on their bike to new homes, let alone all the other peripheral pieces, and its going to be fun to dissect the wash down after the fact. But, its also fun to bring to light some of the names that have been heard in the whispers, and not so whispers, along the way. This is definitely not a complete list, its only covering some of the guys I have heard about. So lets see

Disclaimer: I wont be naming teams when it hasnt been put in the public eye already, some will know where these guys are headed, others may only be hearing of their movement right now!

Kyrie Irving

Rumour has it that Kyrie whom was only put on the block a couple of days ago, has found a new home already! Its easy to see why Brooklyn are moving on from him. The pairing with Murray hasnt resulted in the wins they desired and getting multiple assets for one of the oldest guys on the roster with value is a no brainer. Aligning Murray to another of closer age bracket. Kyrie is leaving his big 2 behind and forming a big 3 that will hope to push up the standings and mix it with the teams that have already staked claims to playoff glory. Will it work?

Zach LaVine

Yes, Zach is headed to his 3rd (4th if you include the Cleveland non-landing stopover) team of the last 6 months as teams try to figure a way to get the NSL all time leading scorer involved in actually winning games. No offence to the past, but Golden State was never a winning franchise and Phoenix now has come out of the gates completely unexpectedly seeing him gone on to a 3rd team where hes suggested to be making a new big 3 in a all in push. Hes still as dynamite as ever here, even if hes been struggling a bit on court, and struggling to find a new home in the NBA, and if rumours are true, he might be the one tipping the edge.

Jerami Grant

Its been no secret at all that Grant is on the move in week 9. Hell, he was nearly renounced on FA day to be on the move then, and hes not in the plans of the Clippers. Its also been no secret where hes going if youve been following the discord as Klemm of the Kings has been openly talking about his team post Week 9. Grant is coming in to help boost the Kings, and it would be presumed though not confirmed that Mike Conley would be the contract going back, since Andrew has made it clear he wants to guaranteed salary next year, which probably also means the Philadelphia 2027 1st is off to LA too. How is Grant going to work in Sactown with the other scorers of Kuzma and Rozier? We shall see!

Khris Middleton

The Warriors had no use for the aging star entering his twilight and so he was always a prime target for contending teams. One such team has landed his services. The Warriors will get a handful of assets back to continue helping them now and to make moves for the future and everybody wins. His new home is going to LOVE him, but it also means theyre going to be committed to playing one of the other star teammates at a different position than hes been in all yearor is Middleton going to play the 4, or off the bench? The intrigue!

DeAndre Ayton

Something had to give in Washington and Josh waited longer than I did in Philly to decide which C was the one for him. Ayton had the more value, so hes the one headed out as Capela is on a much more friendly deal also, for the same production as Ayton. Hes going to hope he can capture the form of the past in his new home, if he even takes the court much for the rest of an NBA Portland lost season, but he is a clear upgrade down low for that team.

Nikola Vucevic

Big Vuc was on his way out of town for sure over the offseason had he signed on the dotted line as a normal free agent, but he killed his GMs plans by instead inking an extension minutes before the end of the financial year which blocked him til December 28th. Hes now found a new home, weeks later, after being an extra in the SA rotation and hell get to feature in a offence starved of other options which is sure to boost his value like it was in Sacramento. He will likely then be moved again.

Brandon Ingram

Ingram has been shipped around sooooo many times since being heralded as the Wolves next Durant in the offseason before last. He was shipped again to the Pacers in the wake of FAgate to diversify pieces in Indy, but hasnt clicked as well as hoped with Luka so is off again for another roll of the dice. His new home will feature a new growth experience but might actually find him locked up for a while instead of buying real estate all over the country, so we shall see.

RJ Barrett

After being in the one place for many years, Barrett was shipped to Cleveland in the offseason to fill a positional need, but then his new home was one of the highest turnover teams in the league so it was only a matter of time. And, off he goes. His new home is hoping to keep trying to turn things around while also being a better future piece, but could very well see him shipped again in the next offseason the way things shake out. He did well in Cleveland, but they had a clear need.

D'Angelo Russell

The man at the centre of FAgate himself, was swooped up in free agency for a few GMs when his GM failed to make his arrival and now hes already on the road again as a juicy trade bait. The man has been a little more maligned this year it seems, but he still likes a shot and isnt hugely efficient. That said, hell help his new team on the wing in a talented line up and the Raptors are happy to get a guy they covet.

And so, this ends the big names that I know of that are moving. Theres probably more and theres definitely other lesser names like Rui Hachimura, Grant Williams, Bruce Brown, Dante Exum and Austin Reaves, too, but for now, were going to wait and see when the big shake down occurs!
