Rookie Ranking
Week 12 - Rookie Rankings. Draft comparisons.
THIS WEEK'S ROOKIE RANKING
1. Victor Wembanyama (Ind) 2. Chet Holmgren (LAL) 3. Brandon Miller (Det) 4. Anthony Black (Por) 5. Amen Thompson (LAL) |
1. Victor Wembanyama, C, Ind
Last Week: 1 Previous #1 picks: Chet Holmgren, Cade Cunningham, Anthony Edwards. Victor, safe to say the hype was not misplaced and he has not disappointed. Victor is doing unprecedented things so far in his rookie season. It is no surprise he is top of this list. It is ridiculous what he is doing and even more ridiculous to imagine what he might be doing when he is in his prime. I saw his new show logo is an alien, fitting. All the recent number one picks are looking like cornerstone pieces and all stars, but Wembanyama is out of this world. |
2. Chet Holmgren, C, LAL
Last Week: 2 Previous #1 picks - Victor Wembenyama, Cade Cunningham, Anthony Edwards. A little different as Chet was taken the year before, but due to injury he is still a rookie. He has been outstanding. He is a legit winning piece in his first season, which is not common. He contributes on both ends of the floor and will be scary once he has reached his full potenial. At this stage all those guys are looking amazing and besides Victor it would at least be a conversation between the others. |
3. Amen Thompson, SF, LAL
Last Week: 4 Previous #3 picks: - Jade Ivey, Evan Mobley, Lamelo Ball. Amen has shown some amazing flashes thus far. The athleticism is off the charts and he is already an elite defender. combined with his play making is nice. the only thing that needs to come around to make him a true complete player is his distance shooting. The other third picks are all a fairly elite group. Ivey has shown flashes, Mobley is an elite defensive big with huge upside on the other end and Ball is a franchise point guard. Would be a hard choice to pick the best. |
4. Anthony Black, PG, Por
Last Week: 7 Previous #7 picks - Benedict Mathurin, Josh Giddey, Obi Toppin. Black has shown he is a starting calibre guard. He is calm for a rookie and does all the right team things. He wouldn't surprise me if he just continues to grow in all areas till he is a big contributor for his team. not bad from his fellow seventh picks. All have showed they belong in the league, unsure who you rate highest out of them all, may be personal preference. |
5. Brandon Miller, SF, Det
Last Week: 3 Previous #4 picks: - Jabari Smith Jr, Jalen Suggs, Onyeka Okongwu. Miller has looked amazing of late. scoring the ball with ease. He is looking all the part of a number one or two option in only his first season which is extremely encouraging. Compared to the others, I would say at this early stage, Miller has shown more than everyone else on this list. |
6. Ausar Thompson, PF, Det
Last Week: 9 Previous #5 picks: - Keegan Murray, Scottie Barnes, Killian Hayes. Ausar, much like his twin brother has shown amazing flashes, mainly on the defensive end, where he is looking like an all defence guy. Also very similarly to his brother the only real question with him at this stage is his shooting. However I am sure the GM that drafted him is very happy with what he has shown in his rookie season. The only one who you might out higher at this stage is Barnes, Murray has looked real solid. Hayes unfortunately still developing. Barnes is looking like a franchise player. Thompson ceiling is very high if he can put it all together. |
7. Cason Wallace, PG, LAC
Last Week: 8 Previous #14 picks - AJ Griffin, Ziaire Williams, Aaron Nesmith. Wallace has shown that he is a ready contributor. He has not shown all star upside yet, but a really high floor. Already an impactful defender and reliable shooter. Maybe he is playing his role as a rookie and there is still much more upside to tap into to. Some of the previous guys drafted at this spot were projects, the jury is still out with Williams, Nesmith is looking like a decent role player and AJ griffin is still very young and developing. |
8. Scoot Henderson, PG, Ind
Last Week: - Previous #2 picks - Paolo Ranchero, Jade Ivey, James Wiseman. Scoot had some big hype coming into the draft, and perhaps would be number one if he were in this draft. Much to my surprise he got off to a shocking start to his NBA carer, however of late he is starting to put it together and show why scouts were so high on him. Paolo is looking all the part of a perennial all star. Ivey seems to be putting those nice flashes together and Wiseman, well we don't need to take about my mate James. |
9. Brandin Podziemski, SG, Atl
Last Week: 5 Previous #16 picks - Ochai Agbaji, Franz Wagner, Cole Anthony. Podziemski is looking like one of the steals of the draft. He was a contributor right away and just understand the game. He doesn't seem to have any weaknesses and does whatever needs to be done in order to win. Franz might be the only one out of the previous guys that you would want over Podz. however after a couple seasons that may not be the case. |
10. Dereck Lively II, C, Bkn
Last Week: - Previous #8 picks - Dyson Daniels, Davison Mitchell, Patrick Williams. I do not think people expected Lively to be as ready to contribute in the pros as he has shown he is. He has been a starter since he came into the league and not just because he was a high pick, he has deserved to be. His presence on both sides has been great, looking slightly like a Tyson Chandler type. I would say other GMs would take Lively if they had a choice of those four guys. |
