Warriors off track, FO vents

The first five weeks of the 2021 season has not gone as planned for the Golden State Warriors, but as this team knows, anything can happen in the course of a season.

There are no excuses, but the schedule so far has not been very friendly to the Warriors.

Through their first 19 games, only 4 of them have been against non-playoff teams, as currently seeded.

9 of Golden State’s first 20 games will have been against teams currently slated as the 4th seed or better in their respective conferences.

It’s not panic time, but the Warriors have put themselves in a situation, once again, that requires them to crawl back into playoff contention. No one wants a repeat of the Klemm-Clay play in game from last season.

The Warriors have also figured out that if DeAndre Ayton doesn’t play… all hope is lost. Ayton seems to be the glue that holds the whole team together, which should go a long way to show his value not only to the Dubs, but to the league. Ayton has missed

“We have to find a way to get our guys to step up when our stars aren’t hitting on all cylinders. We know we are a bit shallow at the cost of bringing in talent, but these guys are in the league for a reason. They need to step up.” GM Titles openly told the media after losing 8 straight.

Disappointing losses to teams currently out of the playoff picture did not resonate well within the organization. 2-2 so far in such games, with Ayton missing one of the losses, is not something that is going to prepare the young Warriors squad for what it takes to win big time playoff games when the time comes… if the time comes.

Ultimately, if the Warriors can’t stay competitive after the influx of veteran talent that was brought in to help support the young core, big changes could be coming. This is a belief shared by local beat writers taking a pulse from within the organization.
