Death By 75 Sledgehammers
At long last the season comes to a close for these Warriors, the worst record in NSL history in tow. With just 7 wins to relish in this season, there was very little to write home about (although Golden State did manage to win more road games than home games). A minus 18 point differential puts this roster squarely in the "could the 2014 Kentucky team beat this Golden State" territory.
It wasn't all doom and gloom though, a few players on this roster showed their versatility and potential to contribute for a winning team. PJ Washington, Max Strus, and Nikola Vucevic are three in particular that may be moved in the offseason to help stoke the flames of the future. If Malik Monk can be retained during free agency, Golden State will have a true scoring guard capable of getting buckets and lightening the load for whoever else stays. The rebuild continues, slowly, adding piece-by-piece to what will hopefully be a team that can compete when Khris Middleton Jr is draft eligible.
Three of the four players drafted in 2023 by this front office saw real game time this season. Jordan Walsh played 27 games for Boston's G League team averaging 14/7/1 on 42% shooting and solid defense but was called up to the big time late in the year and is now on Boston's playoff roster. Jordan Miller also spent time in the G League for the Clippers and showed some scoring ability to complement his all around game. Miller's 22/6/2 line while shooting 48% was good for the eighth best scoring line in the G League this year. Tristan Vukcevic was a late addition to the Wizards season after spending most of the year in Serbia playing for Partizan Belgrade. He got the start in 4 of his 10 games with Washington, playing 15 minutes on average a showing some scoring ability. Drew Timme is the only player drafted over the summer not to get time this year, a foot injury in January derailed an up and down year spent with Milwaukee's G League team, hopefully he will heal up nicely and got a shot next year.
The youth movement keeps on going this summer as Golden State has three picks in the coming draft. Two first round selections, a late lottery and mid-twenties pick, will see the front office able to add another piece or two to fill out the holes in the roster. A late second-rounder will provide the opportunity to take a shot on a guy with potential but not much else.
