Pick 56: Chase Audige

Philly Frills: 23/08/2023

Theres been a bit of a time lag since our last article about the 76ers draft day, but were back now to take a look at the next 76er hopeful drafted back in the July draft.

After dabbling and dealing a bunch of their early 2nd round picks to start the draft, the 76ers made a point of grabbing a couple of late flier picks to take a swing on some draft rights, or maybe 2way signings from the NBA undrafted pile. The first of these was at pick 56 ahead of 57 and 58 which they also owned.

With the 56th pick in the NSL draft, the Philadelphia 76ers select

Chase Audige.

Age: 24
Position: SG/PG
Height: 64
NBA Draft Spot: Undrafted
NBA Team: Miami Heat Summer League

Chase, despite having a really solid college resume as one of the best defenders in college basketball, including being the 2023 Co-Defensive Player of the Year, went undrafted in the NBA draft being a 24 year old with still some question marks surrounding his shooting ability particularly. Hes a non-stop energy ball on defence, picking up the ball carrier and getting in passing lanes to the tune of 2.4 steals per game in his final year of college. For this reason, the 76ers took a flier on him. His skillset is what teams covet, and his work ethic could well see him make some waves into getting onto an NBA roster the same way other undrafted guys like Gabe Vincent and co have done in the past.

He played for the Miami Summer League team, where he showed a bit better stroke from deep as advertised and hounded the ball in his limited minutes. Summer League was deemed a success for him, and Miami were intrigued to keep him around into training camp to fight for the remaining (or replace) one of their 2way slots, or an actual roster spot. However he opted to decline the invite to camp, and instead look for a deal elsewhere where he believes hell have more chance of making the final roster.

For now, the 76ers are in wait and see mode owning his Rights which cost them nothing, and seeing if he can land a place somewhere this year or in the future, all for the cost of a nothing late pick.

We hope to see Chase ply his defensive skills for the 76ers some day.
