Pick 31: Sidy Cissoko
Philly Frills: 11/07/2023
We havent heard from the 76ers for a while now, but the season is done and
the new season is already being planned for, even with the new financial year
only just having begun. The draft was last weekend, and like usual, the 76ers
had a handful of 2nd round picks in the game to fill out the roster
and take some relatively cheap shots at landing a rotational player.
Their first pick in this draft ended up being the start of the 2nd
round, Pick 31, acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers in the Rudy Gobert trade
to be completed.
With the 31st pick in the NSL draft, the Philadelphia 76ers
select
Age: 19
Position: SF/PF
Height: 68
NBA Draft Spot: 44th
NBA Team: San Antonio Spurs
Cissoko is one of the more interesting prospects in the draft in my
opinion. Hes a good sized wing that plays with a high IQ. Hes young, only 19,
but was already playing for the GLeague Ignite last season where he averaged 12
points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 blocks per game last year. He grew
up playing as a guard, so has a good handle and playmaking ability, but is in a
big Boris Diaw like frame and capable of guarding just about any position
because of it.
He stood out to the 76ers GM because of his age and maturity for his age,
with his game already showing signs of being able to translate immediately to
the next level. Their hope was that he would go in the 2nd round in
the NBA so that there was no doubt about them being able to draft him. Their
hopes were realised when he fell to pick 44, allowing them to swoop in 13 spots
higher and take him at 31.
His Summer league performance only helped enforce their decision to take
him at 31, as he has shown his ability to play his NBA role taking only shots
that come within the flow of the offence, allowing others to take the offensive
front and putting all his energy and effort into defence. He locked up #2/#4
pick Brandon Miller in their first game, and continued to show his hustle, hard
work and ability to keep the ball moving throughout.
Were excited to welcome Sidy into the 76er locker room in the coming
days when trading opens up and he officially becomes a 76er.
