Week 3: Good and Bad

Philly Frills: 7/12/2022
Week 3 was a slightly weird one for the 76ers. Overall, 3-1 is a massive
results taking them to 8-5 but questions still remain for the squad on how best
they should be playing. On paper, overall, the result looks like things are all
well in hand with 106 points to 88 on average. 58 to 44 rebounds per game. 7
steals to 3 per game and shooting 47% from the field and 40% from deep while
holding opponents to 39% and 37%. But the wins came against some wounded teams
that they took advantage of the outs, and the loss was somewhat troubling to
the Cavs.
Against Cleveland they lost by only 7 points, but they had 19 more FGA
buoyed by 8 more offensive rebounds and 5 less turnovers, but they were forced
into shooting it 39% to Clevelands 47%...coincidentally exactly the opposite
of what the week suggested above overall for the team. The loss really came
from shooting it 41% from the Free Throw line, which is the main catalyst for
the 59% on the week, where they missed 14 free throws. How do you win the
boards, turnovers and take that many more shots and not win in a close one? Is
it an aberration or does the team need to get better?
Individually we saw Steven Adams take his game to a whole new level
again. Hes now ranked 32nd in the NSL on the back of averaging 11
points, 20 rebounds including 7.5 ORB per game and 2 blocks to boot. Hes
anchoring the middle and hauling in the misses, though he too shot it 0/8 from
the line on the week.
Andrew Wiggins took control of the offence scoring wise on the week. He
dropped 23 points on 52/55/65 shooting, but as you can see, also struggled from
the line. He added 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a nice 2 blocks per game to be the
2nd highest ranked guy on the team at #44.
Fox had a bit of a down week at 16 points on 34/29/100 shooting, and
maybe he should be the one taking it to the hole more with that FT shooting.
The rest of the team right now looks like they could become a hack-a-shaq
candidate as a whole, but not Fox.
Draymond kept up the strong play averaging 15/5/5 but his 55% shooting
from the line, on 31 attempts, is going to be an issue going forward if it
continues.
Max Strus found his voice on the bench this week, averaging 12 points, 2
rebounds and 2 assists on 48/50/100 shooting and might now have unearthed
himself as that bench spark plug that the team craves!
The team is on board again next week, remaining healthy for now, with
some key match ups again to gauge where they are at. Good luck Philly.
