Week 2: Some Questionmarks

Philly Frills: 28/11/2022
The 76ers opened the year well in week 1, going 3-1 and only losing to
the Spurs who are the benchmark again this year. However week 2 was not as
kind. The team went 2-3 for the week after opening the week with a solid
victory over the injury deleted Charlotte Hornets, whom have been a semi-rival
for the last couple of years after the Lebron led playoff series win. But the
they saw two straight close losses with close conference competition in Atlanta
and Indiana before a win over the Raptors, and finally a loss to the Grizzlies.
The issue would seem to be surrounding the teams shots they are getting.
Theyre shooting it regularly in the mid to high 30s on percentage, which isnt
going to help you even if youre taking 10+ more shots per game than your
opponent, and that couples with 71% shooting from the line on the week, close
to 60% in the key losses, compared to the opponents 80% is really the
difference between winning a game by a couple of points, or losing it by 4 or
5. The margin of error is that low!
We need to get better. The game plan probably isnt working the way we
need it to. And yet, were staying in games and competing. But, we need wins.
On the plus side, we saw DeAaron Fox get much more comfortable this week
regaining his team leading NSL rank, despite it still being only 50th.
He poured in nearly 26 points per game, with 3 rebounds and 5 assists, and had
less than a turnover a game also despite the usage.
Wiggins, Adams and Draymond all carried on with where they were at from
week 1, while Al Horford saw a little dip likely due simply to match ups.
Perhaps the biggest take away of the week was the emergence of DayRon
Sharpe off the bench. The 2nd year big man who has a very friendly
style of play for this league recorded the teams 2nd highest PER
behind Fox with averaged of 5 points, 9.s rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game in
only 15 minutes of action including 3.8 offensive rebounds per game. This is
important given the lack of genuine size down the 76er roster and if they can
get 26 rebounds (nearly 10 of them offensive) per game from the middle man
combo of Adams/Sharpe, thats a really nice starting point to build on for the rest
of the plan.
Week 3 is soon upon us and were out there with a different bench look
again, so lets see if the spark can come.
