Week 1 in the books

Philly Frills: 21/11/2022
Week 1 is
run and done, and the GM and fans in Philly are cautiously optimistic for the
season ahead after a good opening week to the year. The team went 3-1, with the
only loss coming to the San Antonio Spurs which at this point in time is almost
a bye round. Perhaps the more interesting thing about that is the way they got
their wins. Each game saw different performers in different ways, with the scoring
being led by DeAaron Fox twice, and Andrew Wiggins twice, and no player on the
team being ranked higher in the NSL rankings than 46, accordingly. The team
simply got the job done, in 3 of the 4 games working with what they needed to
get done each game.
The stats on
the week definitely arent hugely flattering overall. I mean, a 40 point
drubbing where your entire team is shut down will do that. But despite that,
they still out rebounded their opponents, out blocked their opponents and shot
it better from the field and from deep than their opponents. A testament to how
the unit worked outside of the SA game.![]()
Individually,
Wiggins averaged 22 points on the week, but minus the SA game he averaged 26
points and was the highest ranked player on the team at #46. He shot it nearly
50% on the week and took care of business too.
Fox averaged
18 on the week, but only really hit his straps in the final game of the week
where he poured in 32, so has plenty of room to grow as his overall rating also
grows, reaching 87 now in game due to the start of the NBA season. He also put
in the 4th highest NSL ranking on the team behind Wiggins, Horford
and Adams, at only #85.
Steven Adams
was all he was reported to be, and more, averaging 9 points and 15 rebounds,
including 5.5 ORB, 1.5 steals and a block. But like the Wiggins, if you
discount the Spurs game where they were put in all sorts, he averaged 19
rebounds a game, 7.3 ORB, and even put up a 20 point performance.
Al Horford
thrived at the PF spot all week, averaging 3 blocks per game with only a single
game below 3 recorded blocks. He pulled down 11 rebounds a game, including 19
against the Lakers, forming a perfect tandem with Adams, while also spacing the
floor with 2 triples per game on 55% shooting.
Draymond
seemed to show signs of playing a lot more like NBA Draymond, finally. He
averaged 10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal, and showed to be a glue
guy and defensive stopper at the SF position.
The team isnt
a finished product and will encounter injury issues to adjust for down the
stretch, but for now theyre happy with the way things are progressing at this
early stage of the year.
Go Sixers!
