Starting, to look alot like depth

Philly Frills: 11/11/2022
The season
is upon us and the 76ers are primed to try and improve on their dismal play in
season last year. They were flying along at 30-19, but the wheels fell off and
they stumbled into a play in that they deservedly got smashed in. The team looks
better rounded, deeper and more complimentary this year however and so things would
seem to be likely to improve on last year. The East is said to be 12 deep for
playoff teams, but with the recent move of Bradley Beal, and the injury woes in
Atlanta and Detroit along with the departure of Kyrie, there is some cautious
optimism that a largely healthy 76er squad can get a jump on some of the close competition
and build on that.
The starters
have been decided for week 1 after a mini-camp was held through this week since
free agency and heres what we can expect.
Starting C: Steven Adams
Adams was
brought in for quite the swathe of assets, but was heavily targeted after they
nearly pulled off a deal to bring him in at the deadline last year. Hes a
specific skillset, that isnt particularly common around the league, hes on a
good contract and he fills that lane perfectly.
Starting PF: Al Horford
Al is back
in town and completes the big man tandem, inside/outside with Adams. Hes not
the quickest, but he has a high IQ and great defensive prowess, so should be able
to handle the twin tower role, as he did successfully in Philly last year.
Starting SF: Draymond Green
As
previously mention, Dray will swing back and forth a little as required, but
when healthy the likely best place for him is probably SF allowing him to
handle the rock as he naturally does while being more than skilled enough defensively
to match up on other wings.
Starting SG: Andrew Wiggins
Wiggins too
will shift up and down through the year but he is more than capable at SG and
is a 68 long wing to boot, so a SG match up might just be the best role for a
player the 76ers need to score in bunches.
Starting PG: DeAaron Fox
Fox is the
face of the team and team leader, so no surprises here, as they will need a
full year of what he was producing pre-injury and CJ coming to town last year,
where he was in the MVP conversation. He can do that again and is sure to open
up plenty of lanes around Adams screens and more than willing playmakers around
him.
The team is
primed. Now to stay healthy and adjust to what the season calls for! Go Sixers!
