FA is Looming

Philly Frills: 2/11/2022
Free Agency
is only days away now, so its time for an update to the Philadelphia 76ers
plans for the coming season.
Free Agency
isnt something that the 76ers are typically particularly active in. They have
laid down a 99 point bid the last couple of years, to fill the single roster
spot they have had free each year, failing on Marc Gasol, but landing LaMarcus
Aldridge last year whom they later traded for Naz Reid and Caleb Martin.

The latter
of the players mentioned in the LMA trade is the primary concern for the 76ers
this offseason. Martin who was on the team as a 2way the season before, was the
main reason the 76ers pulled the trigger on the trade. He blossomed last year
for the NBA Miami Heat and is their starting power forward this year with his
strong defence and ability to stretch the floor. Hes looking for the 3 year
deal and will be a Restricted Free Agent, and is very much in the plans to come
back to the 76er fold.
The only
other point of movement for the 76ers this Sunday will be the returning of
Donte DiVincenzo. Donte was a big reason why they traded out Tobias Harris in
the Gordon Hayward deal the summer earlier, but he had a lost year last year
coming back from his big injury the year before, and this year hes looking to
rebuild his stock signing cheap for the Warriors. Hes still getting some soft
tissue injuries, but his size and skill at the guard spot opens a lot of doors
for different line ups off the 76er bench and theyre hoping he can stay
healthy this year enough to impact.
Once these
guys are back in the fold, the team is all but set as they will then use their
MLE to sign 2nd round picks Peyton Watson and Jabari Walker, after
already locking up Kenny Lofton Jr in a 2way slot alongside Lindy Waters III.
The desire to keep Lindy and ride the Lofton train meant they had to part early
with their other prized 2nd round selection on a 2way deal, Isaiah
Mobley, who as a 22 year old big man has already got a role playing big man
skillset and looks set to stick in the league, but had to be the odd man out. He
was sent to Memphis for a future 2nd round pick and we wish him all
the best.
The season
is nearly upon us, and the team is shaped. More news to follow for line ups. Go
