Drafting: Pick 54

Philly Frills: 13/10/2022
For the
76ers, they had a main guy they wanted in the 2nd round but he was
Mr. Irrelevant in the NBA with the 57th and final pick of the NBA
draft, and with a handful of undrafted guys already inking deals, they felt
more than safe that Jabari Walker would fall to their pick 54, allowing them to
sweep through and grab some other young talents to roll the dice with before
the 54th pick. The theory worked, and Walker was picked.
Pick 54: Jabari Walker
Jabari
Walker comes from an NBA pedigree with his father, Samaki Walker, being a
serviceable role playing big man for a number of years back in the day. Jabari
has been taught about being a role player and doing the things that help teams
win on the court, rather than being the main man and expecting the world to
fall at his feet and its served him well growing as a player through college.
Jabari was
on our radar early, and his fall in the NBA draft allowed us to survey other
options ahead of him knowing we could still go out and get our guy. Well have
him on the active roster this year.
Walker was
scouted to be a possible fringe 1st round pick in the draft, but
fell all the way to the last pick of the NBA draft, which is curious due to his
combination of size, shooting, length and very malleable skillset with a blend
of intangibles. At 69 with the ability to handle the ball and good feet, hell
be able to play the 3-5 with ease and hold his own on both ends of the court.
Hell sign a 3 year deal after free agency, and the 76ers look forward to
watching him grow.
Welcome to
Philadelphia, Jabari Walker.
