Drafting: Pick 48

Philly Frills: 30/09/2022
For a while
the 76ers had a few guys that they were tossing around as targets for these
picks. Scottie Pippen Jnr was one of those, but they realised theyd have to go
as high as Pick 45 for him and wanted to go another way in the end, so did. For
that reason, it came down to Jabari Walker, who they deemed to 100% be
available by pick 54 still, or swing for a hotter name currently who would definitely
not last until pick 54. They opted for the latter and went for the hot name.
Pick 48: Kenneth Lofton Jnr.

Loftons
name being called at all after going undrafted in the NBA draft, brought murmurs
from the audience when he became the 2nd undrafted guy drafted in
the NSL this year, and still in the 40s to boot. He had a 2way deal already in
place, and hed just started doing what he always does wherever he plays, to
the Summer League crew, and that is carve up the opposition with a mix of brut
strength and sheer bulk, and light skilled footwork and a penchant for handling
the rock. If you missed his Summer League, go take a look at what he did towelleveryone.
All
honesty, I didnt know much about Kenny until I saw him in the Summer League. I
had scouted his name a little after the NBA draft but then watching his style
and skillset on show got me really excited for what type of future he might
have. Hes not a lock, by any means, to have a long stable career but the
upside appears to be there to go somewhere.
Lofton has
had knocks on him throughout his college days particularly due to his physical
profile. Hes a 67 PF type which is already a possible issue, but weighs in
over 260lbs which both would be seen to be poor conditioning, but also lends itself
to him having an amazing knowledge of how to utilise his profile for easy
buckets. He showed in in the USA under 18s team where MVP winner Chet Holmgren himself
suggested Lofton was the MVP of the team and he's shown it everywhere he plays.
He used to be guard height before a growth spurt, so has handles like a guard
and is more than comfortable with good court vision of setting up teammates for
easy buckets. Hes an improving outside shooter, with capability already, and
his footwork is years ahead of many of his peers with a high IQ of angles also
helping him score in a variety of ways from everywhere. His defence will be his
limiting factor, but for now, if his offence translates any team could use that
type of spark.
Welcome to
Philadelphia, Kenny Lofton Jnr.
