NSL Insider - Premium: Buy, Hold, Sellby jmac, updated on Monday, January 27 2025, 07:59 am EST Buy - Toronto Raptors Dylan
has been an emotional rollercoaster this season. I get it, 2k does
crazy things to us. I know that as much as anyone and I can attest how
much it has ruined my moods and days over the journey. Curry was going
to be traded, which caused some investors to sell, and caused some to
buy. Curry is too good not to figure it out, as is Dylan as a 2k-mind
and GM. The Raptors PR machine has quitened down significantly as of
late and the Raptors are producing some of their better basketball on
the season. They still linger in the play-in range but I think they are
too good not to get up to sixth spot or higher come the end of the
season. If you are looking to buy, Raptors are my recommendation. ![]() Hold - Memphis Grizzlies If
you have had the Grizzlies' stock from the beginning, you have missed
the boat to cash out at the top. If you bought the stock at the heights
of being a perennial 60-win team, you have likely lost a fair bit of
value from your portfolio as of late. They avoided the -500gm lux tax
fiasco, which caused a big stir in the markets, and appeared to have
dodged bullets. But the team that is currently playing isn't playing
well, despite consistent moves of players and changes to lineups. No one
has bought Grizz stock this season and I would encourage you holding it
to hold on a little longer; Rootsey is a good, attentive and clever GM
and this Memphis roster is a playoff roster. They should figure it out.
Don't panic-sell. Sell - Minnesota Timberwolves Shay
does enough in the DMs to prove he isn't a bot, and that's a good
thing. I know he inherited a great team in the Minnesota Timberwolves
(shout out and probs to Ethan), but he has barely made a whimper as GM
on discord, or in terms of moves for his team (maybe they don't need
moves) and just general buy-in as the GM. Maybe he is busy testing his
team out on 2k, and tinkering to find the perfect strategy? Maybe it is
none of that? At the moment, the team has the fifth best record in the
league (or thereabouts), which is a fantastic achievement. However, if
the aforementioned factors remain the same, in a state of stasis, I
think you could make 15% more if you jump off now. Once again, sell
doesn't equal bad team. The Wolves are great. I am merely a financial
advisor. ![]() Buy - LA Clippers Admirably,
the Clippers have been able to eek out the occasional win despite
having a claim at the worst injury luck on the season, so far. Their
best player, future superstar Paolo Banchero has missed most of the
24-25 campaign so far with a torn pectoral muscle. Other key clippers
like John Collins, Trey Murphy have missed significant time, too, and
their free agent signing at C, Mo Wagner, went down with a season-ending
knee injury. Sitting at 10-21, and Paolo back next week, I can envision
the Clippers climbing as high the 8-9 range by season's end and being a
legitimate threat to take the final playoff spot (if Andrew seeks that
as a goal). If that all rings true at season's end, then you would have
made $$$ if you buy now. Hold - San Antonio Spurs At
one point, the Spurs stock would have been valued as an ultra Blue-Chip
stock, like the biggest corporations of the world. Make no mistake, it
still is. At 15-15 this season, mired in the worst form they have
produced in arguably their entire NSL history, the boat is starting to
sway (to say it is rocking, would be hyperbole). Some antsy investors
are worried that their hard earned savings are starting to wither away
with the Spurs' form. However, I would like to remind the investors of
what a Blue-Chip stock is - large market cap, sterling reputation and
incredible financials - all of which represent the way the Spurs do
business and win games. Giannis is the Spurs as much as Nels is, and
neither are going anywhere. Easy hold. ![]() Sell - Phoenix Suns I
love that the Suns are having a good run, as laddas is one of the
engines that powers the league culture and trade market. Phoenix have
had a great run of trading and clearly added value and wins at each
turn. Their starting five looks safe and capable and they have some
solid young players on their bench. Why, you ask, am I recommending the
Suns as a 'sell'? Well, they currently are 18-12, on the cusp of a top
ten record in the league. But, they have a point differential
(amazingly) of 0 and just seem to be a 'feel-good story' type of team.
Do not misconstrue sell as not being a good team, because these Suns
will play playoffs. But, if you bought in during the off-season, when
pistol was flaunting how good their pick was going to be, you would have
made plenty of profit. Sell (with the head) and bank some coin, and
cheer the Suns on with your heart. |
