NSL Insider - Premium: What is the cost of Wemby?by Jasonpitts, updated on Tuesday, February 04 2025, 07:49 pm EST Victor Wembanyama is a 21 years old,
Sophomore, 7 foot 4 inches, 230 lbs, wingspan of 8 feet and was drafted at No.1
to the San Antonio Spurs in 2023, and fell into the lap of Indiana
unfortunately (after Utah had 2 picks fall within the top 3 which we still
haven't recovered from clearly). For all its worth, Indiana seemed to have been
blessed that draft, and boy have we heard about it. All too much if you ask
some, and I think the only one who wants to hear more about it would be Yeet
himself. During his second year campaign, he is
currently averaging 21.5 PPG, 15.3 RPG, 2 APG, 2.2 STL, 2.7 BLK and 1.1 TO,
with splits of 0.580 FG, 0.830 FT and 0.370 3PT. It seemed like for years there
was only one unicorn, Porzingis (currently happily residing in Utah) but now
there seems to be another ascending to the throne. He has an overall 94 2k rating, already with
22 badges, 3 HOF, 4 Gold, 7 Silver and 8 Bronze. It may come as no shock to
anyone, but his potential is 99. 99 block rating, 98 defensive consistency and
an 88 outside scoring, what can't this guy do? He is the 3rd ranked C and 13th
ranked overall in the NSL, and has contributed to his Indiana Pacers sitting
7th in the East with a record of 23 wins and 14 losses. So for all the talk, all the hype, knowing he
will most likely be All NBA for the next 15 years, what exactly would it take
to move what will undoubtedly become the best 2k player within the next two
seasons, if not next? The trade talk channel has blown up way too often, with
fellow jealous GM’s questioning the ever confident Yeet about hypotheticals and
piss take trade offers. It is not just the trade talk channel either, whatever
the conversation, on whatever channel, if Yeet is there, so is the wispy wet
words of ‘Wemby’ rolling off his tongue, fitting his French Freak into any
conversation he can. It is inevitable we reach a point where we
genuinely figure out what it would take to move him. And the second part to
this is, why would you move him? We have seen what now looks like a dismal
return for the LA Clippers when they traded away Giannis a couple of seasons
ago, which really has only brought them Paolo Banchero and handed the keys of
the league over to Nelson. Will Giannis ever get traded again? You could only
imagine that would take multiple gun rookies and a handful of good firsts to
make that happen, something a GM rarely amasses. It appears that Wemby will
eclipse Giannis shortly, and being 21 years old… you have to wonder. Does Shai, Mobley and Jabari Smith even touch
the surface? Does James Corden, I mean Luka Doncic plus 3 first rounders open
the doors for a chat? What does Cade, Amen and Chet do for old Yeet? I think
the value could be there if you are betting on the fact that you can be amazing
at every other position, and have a deep bench with assets still in the kitty,
but I think realistically the NSL creates such a hold over the players that GMs
draft and raise as their own. Even if Yeet was offered Shai, Luka or Giannis
and the kitchen sink of firsts, I cannot see him ever sending the Frenchman on
his merry way. For a man so eager to trade and the first one to let you know
the value of his own players, trading away generational talent does not seem
like a business which the NSL manifests. It does go to show that even with this man
mountain, his Pacers are only 7th in the East, and he does have some genuine
support around him in Mikal Bridges, Norman Powell and Scary 2k Terry. So
having just Wemby alone may not be enough to take Yeet to the Mount Rushmore of
the NSL, but the NSL is a fickle beast, all the testing, glitching, an
impossible world to understand, who knows what is possible. Coming from someone who has built their
franchise up from nothing, inheriting a shocking team with little to no picks
and turning it into a contender (maybe with a little luck from Merencio… lol) I
can't see myself putting together a plethora of value for one guy, I don't
think it is for everyone but maybe I am in the minority. Surely Joel with his
23 first round picks this year could put up all of them and would probably
still get turned down. I would be shocked if Wemby is ever moved, but
the NSL is a wild place, and Yeet is known to love a drink, so you never know,
you might just catch him on a good day… good luck Wemby, you deserve a chip or
2 in the NSL, but hopefully no time soon. Sorry Yeet.
