NSL Insider - Premium: Trade Predictions Part 2

by Shams, updated on Friday, March 03 2023, 04:37 am EST

I decided to make this premium as a way to have some fun and try to mock up some trades that may or may not fit the GMs thoughts, but something that could happen. I provided rationale with each decision so its not just a meaningless trade. I hope you enjoy the read!

1st Trade:

Precious Achiuwa and Immanuel Quickley to the Memphis Grizzlies and Mitchell Robinson and 2023 Utah Jazz 2nd round pick to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Lakers Rationale:

They currently have the PG and SG spots set for the future with Cade Cunningham and Jalen Green, so investing into one of the top centers would be beneficial to their team. Achiuwa has played good for Los Angeles, but is not the rim protector that Robinson is. Robinson is also on contract for 3 more years after this one so the Lakers would feel pretty good about getting a guy who is locked up for an extended period of time.

Grizzlies Rationale:

The Grizzlies get to a more manageable luxury tax with this trade, it ends up with a great player being traded, but they bring in a capable center in Achiuwa while also getting a great young player in Quickley. The trade would save them lots of money and bring the tax down from a number that isnt even able to be paid as its above the 150 point threshold. This trade saves them around 12 million in cap which makes the gm point fine around the 150 mark.

2nd Trade:

Kenyon Martin Jr, Deni Avdija, 2023 Boston 1st rounder to Sacramento Kings for Cam Johnson and Jaylen Nowell.

Celtics Rationale:

With success in the NSL this year they have the opportunity to make some noise and move their 1st round pick without much hesitation to be in the lottery. It seems the PF spot is kind of bare with non polished players such as Sochan, Avdija, and Kuminga being the only listed primary PFs on roster. This group is not as good as Johnson, but Johnson also has the opportunities to develop while in Brooklyn. They get him as well as Nowell who has shown he can be a pretty good scorer off the bench and provide some depth.

Kings Rationale:

Avdija has shown development in the NBA this year and the Kings getting him would help to build with their core as well as allow them to keep some cap space since they wouldnt have to pay Johnson this offseason. Martin Jr has also been a big surprise in the NBA and would provide lots of depth getting two serviceable SF/PF guys along with a 1st round pick which they dont have any for this year. This would provide them with some tools to use for the future with 2 players on contract next year and 2 players with options, but aside from that, everyone else on roster right now is an expiring.

3rd Trade:

Pascal Siakam, Aaron Holiday and Theo Pinson to the Houston Rockets for Luke Kennard, Norman Powell, and Tyrese Maxey.

Rockets Rationale:

They get the best player in the deal. Siakam isnt what he is in real life, but the dude can still play in 2k and creates a Big 3 of Jokic, Haliburton, and Siakam. The team has the guards in Clarkson, Brown and Graham to fill the hole that Maxey leaves, but nobody has been able to cement the spot at the PF position. With Kennard and Powell going out some depth is lost, but it is hard to lose a deal where you get the best player and also give up no draft compensation.

Hawks Rationale:

They get a young talented player in Maxey along with some depth and role players. The Hawks have shown they are going into a rebuild with the trading of picks with Green and this allows them to get younger and they could possibly turn the role players into more assets at the deadline or in the offseason. The Hawks have some young bigs on roster that can fill in for Siakams absence right now. The contract control of Siakam could be a worry with the record being bad as he only has next year on his current contract.

4th Trade:

Draymond Green, Caleb Martin, and 2nds to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Kevin Huerter and Tyus Jones

76ers Rationale:

They can put to use the stash of 2nds to get this deal done and get a much needed scorer as they have the defense, but need some more offense. Huerter has really shown out in the NBA and he could be a starter or come off the bench. Tyus Jones would be a great addition to the bench and the money of Draymond would spread and get younger talent that fits the timeline of Fox

Thunder Rationale:

They add the veteran presence of Draymond to help in the playoffs and get a nice young player in Caleb Martin. They can add some 2nds to the arsenal to use for trades later on too. The team would add defense they need and use Tyus Jones to get bigger as they havent used him very much. This also could allow Edwards to be one of the guys manning the backup unit as a PG and allow him to grow some there.
