NSL Insider - Premium: Trade Predictionsby Shams, updated on Thursday, March 02 2023, 12:34 am EST Trade Predictions: I decided to make this premium as a way to have some fun and try to mock up some trades that may or may not fit the GMs thoughts, but something that could happen. I provided rationale with each decision so its not just a meaningless trade. I hope you enjoy the read! 1st Trade: Desmond Bane to Milwaukee Bucks for Christian Koloko, Miles Bridges, and three 2nd round picks. Pelicans Rationale: The Pelicans are given a young big man that could play into the future of their team with almost all of their young guys, besides Wendell Carter Jr, being either guards or wings. In the deal they also get a young star player while his situation might be a weird one, he will likely sign with a team in the offseason and if Bridges returns to his same form it would make sense for the Pelicans to do. The 2nd round picks help with the uncertainty of Bridges situation. Bucks Rationale: This is a team looking to win now and are looking to create the best lineup around Shai which means they have to get shooters, who better than Bane to do so? Hed provide the offense and some defense to the team and the Bucks have a center in Zeller to fit into the backup center spot or have the ability to cash in their 2nds for a center at the deadline. The team gets a lot better to try and win a championship this year and keeps the core they have right now together. 2nd trade: Jerami Grant to Los Angeles Clippers for Duncan Robinson, PJ Washington, and 2023 Clippers 1st round pick. Clippers Rationale: This is a team that is on the bubble of the playoffs and a guy like Grant would help them quite a bit, it also allows them to get off of the contract that Duncan Robinson has with a contract in Grant that is expiring and allow a sign and trade in the offseason if they want to do so and get younger. PJ Washington will also be one of the players who is bound to get paid in the offseason and this is a good price to pay to clear up some money on the books while also try and win some more games. Warriors Rationale: The Warriors are in a spot where they are just trying to get assets, the team is bare and Grant was one of the guys who was bought at a very high price this offseason, but with this trade they get Washington, a guy they can invest in long term to play the PF spot and also get a 1st round pick in the process. With how the team is looking right now you would hate to just let Jerami Grant walk for nothing when the chances at the playoffs seem very slim right now. This would allow some assets for a new GM to build from. 3rd trade: Chris Boucher and 2025 1st round pick to the Phoenix Suns for Kyle Kuzma and 2024 Heat 2nd round pick. Suns Rationale: The Suns get a 1st round pick to use in future trades while also bringing in a more fitting player to run the center position. Boucher is on contract for two more years after this one while Kuzma is able to opt out this offseason, this would allow the Suns to have similar chances at making the playoffs this year while also locking in a guy for a few more years and bring in a 1st rounder. Magic Rationale: The Magic are projected at 182 million in contracts next year right now, this trade allows them to bring down that amount if they want to, sign and trade Kuzma, or resign him. It keeps the options more open as they are a play-in team right now and paying the team that much for average play can really annoy the GM. The team can also get better with the trade with how Kuzma has looked for Phoenix this year he could be a huge help. 4th trade: Daniel Theis, 2027 Nets 1st rounder, and 2023 Miami 2nd rounder for DeAnthony Melton Blazers Rationale: Portland gets a bright young guard who is on a good contract right now and is also on contract next year. They also are able to get rid of Daniel Theis who hasnt been seeing the floor the last few games in the NBA and is an undersized big man which arent as valuable in the NSL as they are in the NBA. The Blazers would get more youthful too, they are the 2nd oldest team in the league at 27.9 years old as the average age. Nets Rationale: Brooklyn gets a 1st round pick as well as a high 2nd round pick in this draft, not to mention the 1st rounder is one of their own. This allows them down the line to have more flexibility if they did want to rebuild, which 2027 is a long time away so it gives more reason why teams might want their pick. Anything can change in that time frame and Melton only has this year and next on contract so this year is the best time to trade him. If Brooklyn waits until this time next year, teams will just wait until the offseason when they have a shot at him in free agency. |
