NSL Insider - Premium: 2023 Mock Draft- Lottery

by Shams, updated on Friday, January 27 2023, 12:20 am EST

Draft order was done in order of record on January 23rd, 2023. Tried to mix the balance of BPA as well as fit with teams, hope you enjoy!

1 - Utah Jazz- Victor Wembanyama
- Wemby has been the talk of the league for some time, with his height at 72 and his guard like skills. He is the prospect everyone raves about and who wouldnt want a unicorn of a prospect like him?

2 - Detroit Pistons via BKN- Scoot Henderson- Scoot has been tearing it up in the G-League and is an insanely good consolation prize. Hes averaged 19 ppg, 6.1 apg, and 4.9 rpg going against players just outside of the NBA, the team that lands the 2nd pick will surely be happy.

3 - Utah Jazz via DAL- Brandon Miller- Miller has put himself into the best position to be the 1st player taken out of college. Scoring 19.8 ppg as a true freshman at Alabama leading them to a 17-2 season so far and sitting at 4th in the nation. With Miller being 69 he has elite size at the SF position and also shot 45.7% from 3 this year making 3.3 per game.

4 - Phoenix Suns- Amen Thompson- The first Thompson twin on this list is Amen, he is freakishly athletic and has the tools to guard 1-3 on defense standing at 67. His 3-pointer is the biggest question mark with his game, but the talent as well as basketball IQ is there.

5 - LA Lakers- Keyonte George- George has a very good frame and stands at 64. Is a very good defender while also being able to score and create for himself. His ability to pass is decent, but would make it tough to play PG, he would pair very well alongside Cade though.

6 - LA Lakers via GSW- Ausar Thompson- Ausar is the other Thompson twin, the two are pretty similar players with insane athleticism and not yet having a reliable 3 pointshot, but Ausar isnt as good of a passer as Amen which is why hes lower on the list. He still has some decent passing, but the potential is through the roof with the twins.

7 - Dallas Mavericks via ATL- Anthony Black- Blacks size at the PG spot makes him an interesting prospect, standing at 67 and being sort of a combo guard, but also possessing the ability to possibly be a full time PG. He has shown he can pass and run an offense with Arkansas, but the 3-point shot is what keeps his stock around here. He has shot 31.5% from 3 and itll only get harder at the next level.

8 - LA Clippers via MIA- Nick Smith- Smith has very good athleticism that makes up for his 64 frame being a combo guard, and is also one of the best scorers in this class and his shot is dangerous with his quick release. His health has been an issue so far this year as hes only played in 5 games.

9 - Memphis Grizzlies via SAC- Cam Whitmore- Whitmore is one of the youngest players this class being only 18 at the time of the draft, his body is NBA ready at 67 232, his offense from within the 3 is very good, but in transition is where he truly excels, his ball handling and 3 pointer needs to improve though.

10 - Indiana Pacers- Jarace Walker- Walker also has a great frame, but his role will be tougher to carve out in the NBA. He has strength and his defense is something that really sticks out, but his height at 68 will make it tough for him to make the impact he does in college. He is able to play at PF/C, and his strength will help him as a small ball 5, but height matters a lot especially at center.

11 - Washington Wizards via CHACason Wallace- Wallace is a 64 combo guard who is just a very solid player. He provides really great defense and is able to play on and off the ball on offense, he has been able to create getting 3.7 apg and also is shooting 39.5% from 3 so its hard to say hell surely be a star, but he should be able to carve out some sort of role in the league.

12 - Miami Heat via DET- Gradey Dick- Dick wins the award for the best name in this draft, but hes also a really great player, his style will help the Heat being a guy who can space the floor really well. He has the ability to create his own shots. His defense is good and he has great basketball IQ being able to get to the right places on offense and defense.

13 - Atlanta Hawks via Orlando Magic- GG Jackson- Jackson is one of the youngest players this draft and will not turn 19 until 2 months into the NBA season, his scoring is great and it can be hard to find a PF who is able to create his own shots. He still has some moments where he has an awful shot selection and does not see the court like a shot creator should.

14 - LA Clippers- Kris Murray- Murray is the twin brother to Keegan Murray from last years draft, he has a great floor which can be what teams look for at the end of the lottery, and he is projected to be a great 3 and D guy. His age at 23 years old will keep some teams away from him, but with the Clippers success so early in the rebuild getting a guy like Murray to contribute to winning would make sense.
