NSL Insider - Draft marks are in, did you pass?by Jasonpitts, updated on Wednesday, August 25 2021, 04:06 am EST What a day! As a first time drafter I did not know what to expect, but I
did know one thing... A lot of people had done their homework. Without
further ado, here are your 2021 draft results. Lets start with... 'The stars of the show!' - Adam is happy - A+ / A1. Boston Celtics / A+ Picks - 6,9,11,35 Players - 6. Jonathan Kuminga, 9. Alperun Sengun, 11. Moses Moody, 35. JT Thor. Merry Christmas. Once again the Celtics have hit the jackpot. They live for the draft and after giving an Oscar worthy performance on air, Toby must have spent the afternoon cleaning his shorts after picking these 3 young guns. What a haul for the best placed up and comer in the league. This draft puts the league on notice. If he wants it, it's Toby’s league to lose in the coming years, and that might be too much pressure for the little guy to handle. One thing is for certain, this team is built for excitement and I for one cannot wait to see the Green and white rise. 2. Utah Jazz / A+ Picks - 7,16,17,23,34 Players - 7. Josh Giddey, 16. Franz Wagner, 23. Chris Duarte, 34. Miles McBride The
Jazz are stoked with their impressive haul. Inheriting a franchise with
a very bare cupboard, they have managed to add 3 first round picks here
in the 2021 draft. They are super excited to see how the rooks will
form the nucleus moving forward with existing Jazz members Rui
Hachimura, Devin Vassell, Jahmius Ramsey and recently acquired Moses
Brown. Oh, and there is a rumour floating around that another mid first
rounder may be on his way to Salt Lake City… watch this space. 3. Atlanta Hawks / A Picks - 2,10,31 Players - 2. Jalen Green, 10. James Bouknight, 31. Shariffe Cooper, What
more could you ask for? Green, Bouknight and Cooper… that is a draft.
3 absolute powerhouse scorers and super exciting guys. For a rebuilding
Hawks side, these picks inject energy and pace, something I am sure
will be the focal point moving forward. There will be the question of
defending the other team of course, but with this much scoring it may be
easier to just purely outscore the other team. The Hawks nailed this
draft and they should feel great heading into next season. 4. Los Angeles Clippers / A Picks - 13,15,22 Players - 13. Corey Kispert, 15. Trey Murphy, 22. Usman Garuba. I
love the pick of Trey Murphy at 15, I think he could be the steal of
the draft here. Not such a fan of Kispert, he was unimpressive during
the Summer League and I am yet to see aspects of his game that blow me
away, but boy can he shoot. Garuba will be another weapon to add to a
nice Clippers lineup. 3 very handy and impactful players drafted by the
Clippers here. I totally forgot that LA had 3 first round picks after
making the playoffs and finishing the regular season with 53 wins, a
very impressive feat. 5. Denver Nuggets / A Picks - 12,20,21,37,38 Players - 12. Jalen Johnson, 20. Keon Johnson, 21. NahShon Hyland, 37. Neemias Queta, 38. Ayo Dosunmu. Another
highly ranked team which ended up with multiple first round picks, a
strong spot to be in if you are a Denver Nugget fan. Johnson will be a
gun, Bones and Ayo are going to rock too, huge fans of those guys. The
Keon Johnson pick urkes me a little, as I expected him to fall. The
Nuggets may have been better with a ready now player like Duarte to help
push them into that next tier. For now, we wait and see if the gamble
on Keon’s athleticism pays off. To have drafted this much talent
though, you are going in the right direction that is for sure. 6. Orlando Magic / A- Picks - 4,47,56 Players - 4. Jalen Suggs, 47. Filip Petrusev, 56. Matthew Hurt. The
Magic had their gaze set on Suggs like it was love at first sight. The
whole of the NSL is happy Gav got his man, in the hopes that he might
leave admin alone for just one day. Recently trading for Dejounte Murray
give the Magic a 3 guard lineup, which I love. Trae, Murray and now
Suggs. Gav did well. To round out his good day, two late fliers in the
second look to have the Magic in good stead heading into the 2022
season. They will be a top team in the East, I am sure of it. 7. Phoenix Suns / A- Picks - 26,28,58 Players - 26. Josh Christopher, 28. Tre Mann, 58. Vrenz Bleijenbergh The
Suns came in and nailed their two late first round picks. Firstly in
the highly touted Christopher, and secondly with the value pick of Tre
Mann at 28, 10 spots back than the NBA draft. Not sure who the heck
Bleijenbergh is, but I am sure Laddas nailed this one too. Who knows
what the future holds for this young Phoenix squad, but they do have
their 2022 pick back now, so at least they hold their destiny in their
own hands. 'The not so bads…' Adam is still kinda happy - B+ / B8. Los Angeles Lakers / B+ Picks - 1 Players - 1. Cade Cunningham Kudos
for the Lakers in making the right decision at 1. That in itself
deserves an A, however I would have liked to have seen a much more
active GM at the draft. In this critical rebuild, getting some younger
talent on the roster now is imperative to getting out of the cellar.
Teams like Utah, Atlanta, Bucks, Timberwolves and Celtics all
significantly improved their roster. The Lakers could have, and should
have done a lot more. 9. Milwaukee Bucks / B+ Picks - 3,36 Players - 3. Evan Mobley, 36. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl You
cannot go wrong with these top picks, Mobley will be a star in this
league for sure. Great pick for the Bucks, and nabbing Robinson-Earl
could be a steal too. Who knows what he will become but I like the
addition. 10. Minnesota Timberwolves / B+ Picks - 5 Players - 5. Scottie Barnes With
the wolves not owning their 2022 pick, it was clear that the mission
was to abort youth and be as competitive as they can next year. Some
huge trades have lined that up perfectly and taking one of the, if not,
the most mature ready now players in the draft will definitely help
their cause. Good luck to the wolves, and a great pick once again. 11. Golden State Warriors / B Picks - 11,44,53,60 Players - 11. Ziaire Williams, 44. Jericho Sims, 53. Aaron Wiggins, 60. Duane Washington Jr. They
got their guy, even though I am not sold on said guy, lets hope he pans
out for the Warriors. There were strong trade talks with Utah and the
Warriors to switch picks 14 and 17, ultimately it feel flat and Titles
picked where he wanted. As for the other picks, Sims looks decent,
Wiggins could be a stash guard and another deep last minute selection of
Washington Jr (who?) good turn out beneficial in the long term. 12. Chicago Bulls / B Picks - 19, 50 Players - 19. Cameron Thomas, 50. Jason Preston Two
quality players here. Not surprising to see Thomas jump a bunch of his
peers here with his sound Summer League performance. He could very well
turn out to be a steal of this draft, or get stuck in the rotation
behind the three headed dragon at Brooklyn. As for Preston, the irony is
that he was getting roasted on air by all the hosts of the draft, then
to be drafted by Merencio. That made me laugh, but i do think he could
be something. Let's wait and see. 13. Philadelphia 76ers /B Picks - 30, 32, 43, 48, 54, 59 Players - 30. DayRon Sharpe, 32. BJ Boston, 43. Rokas Jokubaitis, 48. Juhann Begarin, 54. Aaron Henry, 59. Scottie Lewis This
is a hard one. Sharpe and Boston look like great picks, and the 76ers
will tell you that they nailed the rest of them too. As this is the
first year of the new Utah GM, we will have to wait and see if all they
say about the 76ers is true, and if the wizardry of the second round
will take off. For the meantime, there seems to be a lot of potential
here and the rumbles of some big trades coming too... 'The incompletes…' Adam is losing his happiness - C+ / C14. Cleveland Cavaliers / C+ Picks - 8 Players - 8. Davion Mitchell Another
team I thought should have been much more aggressive. I like the
Mitchell pick, he's a bulldog and will be fun to own. Should have been
more active here. 15. Memphis Grizzlies / C+ Picks 18,49,57 Players - 18. Joshua Primo, 49. Greg Brown, 57. Sandro Mamukelashvili. Does
Primo pan out? Is the Spurs development overrated? Who knows. I
personally thought Primo would drop a little more, and the other two
seem like late fliers at best. The Grizz have a rocking side at the
moment, but I would have like to have seen some different choices here. 16. Dallas Mavericks / C+ Picks - 24 Players - 24. Jaden Springer If
he lives up to his potential, this could be a great pick. Stringer is
in a great spot at the 76ers and will hopefully earn himself some
minutes. The mavs will hope that he doesn't get stuck on the bench for
the foreseeable future. 17. Oklahoma City Thunder / C+ Picks 27,39,40 Players - 27. Isaiah Jackson, 39. Santi Aldama, 40. Kessler Edwards Looks
like the Thunder were going after some long term big men. I do like
Edwards moving forward, he could be valuable. Jackon seems very raw to
me and could take some time, but he does have a nice situation at
Indiana to take over from the forever in trade rumours Myles Turner. 18. New Orleans Pelicans / C Picks - 25,42 Players - 25. Isaiah Todd, 42. Joe Wisekamp Did
not like the selection of Todd too much here, I thought a flier on
Christopher might have been better. Wiskamp could be nice too. Do not
know too much about him. 19. Houston Rockets / C Picks - 33 Players - 33. Jared Butler I
like Butler and I hope he stays healthy. He too will take a while to
develop but the Rockets have invested in something for the future here. 20. Brooklyn Nets / C- Picks - 41,45,46 Players - 41. Herbert Jones, 45. Isaiah Livers, 46. Dalano Banton. Do
not know too much about these three, at 41 it seems as though a lot of
the showcased talent had been picked up, so a difficult spot to have a
bunch of picks. 21. Washington Wizards / C- Picks - 51,55 Players - 51. Charles Bassey, 55. David Johnson. Some
late round fliers for a stacked Wizards team. We do not expect them to
do much, but Josh has shown to have a knack for the draft. Lets see if
these guys put me in my place and outperform this rating. 22. Toronto Raptors / C- Picks - 17 Players - Kai Jones Who
knows how long the Raptors will have Kai, he could just be another
short rental as once again the Raps are allergic to the draft and
everything it stands for. Kai does rock though, all the best Kai. 'The N/A’s…' Adam isn't happy. Watch out. Maybe next year fellas! (How boring not having a pick)- Portland Trailblazers - Sacramento Kings - San Antonio Spurs - New York Knicks - Charlotte Hornets - Detroit Pistons - Indiana Pacers - Miami Heat |
