NSL Insider - Premium: Exciting Prospectsby merencio, updated on Sunday, May 16 2021, 01:35 pm EST I thought this would be a fun exercise for us to look at the most exciting young prospect on every team. But what constitutes a prospect? Well, for the sake of this article I will be considering any player under 25 (to give a chance to late bloomers), however uf your guy is already an established player in the league and recognized as such, he will probably not be on this list, but that's just because Im looking for prospects. In reverse order of standings, let's do it! Los Angeles Lakers Nickeil Alexander Walker Looking at this squad, NAW is the guy I would go to. Hes the cousin of Thunders SGA, although less talented, in my eyes, but he can score, plays the game with calm that few players possess and has a good feel for the game. He needs to stay on the floor though. Minnesota Timberwolves Isaiah Stewart The fact that so many rookies have already established themselves as players in the league is a testament to this teams scouting department. Think maybe Bey could be here, but the guy I like is Stewart, because hes been underrated since coming into the league and he does nothing but outhustle you every time.
Atlanta Hawks Jaxson Hayes This guys has been a player I like for a while with eye popping athleticism for the Center position, however hess developed has been slower than most of us have anticipated. Still, hes a po-go stick whenever hes on the court and just needs to bulk up and rebound more. Utah Jazz Devin Vassell Lots to choose from here, but Ill go for Devin here because he seems to be one of those prospects that doesnt present many holes in his game, however he doesnt seem like a specialist in anything here. Hes in one of the most coveted farm systems in the league so he gets the nod. Boston Celtics Deni Avdija - I thought long and hard about putting Wiseman here, but I think hes shown enough to me to be considered a hit, and I think hes great, but Avdija is where I go because hes a long forward that plays with tenacity and just havent translated as expected. Great feel for the game too.
Cleveland Cavaliers P.J. Dozier This is a guy thats easy to root for. The guy just plays hard, plays great defense and has great athleticism. Hes a guy NBA Denver loves to develop into a contributor.
Milwaukee Bucks Precious Achiuwa This guy has my eyes since draft night as he does what hes supposed to and plays with motor, rebounds and has a little bit of touch too. Again, the farm system hes on, NBA Heat, sure counts for a good bet on him to be good. Brooklyn Nets Jarrett Culver Culver set the NCAA environment on fire, but to say hes been underwhelming in his early NBA career is an understatement. Still, a whole lot of skill there, just might be one of those things youre in a bad NBA situation. Still like the guy
Phoenix Suns Lonnie Walker Lonnie has been through a lot in life, and I respect and admire the hell out of him! This guy has all the talent in the world, he just needs to play under control and have some guidance for the mental side of things. NBA Spurs is a great place for that.
Oklahoma City Isaac Okoro Im just going to come out and say that Edwards has arrived and that boy is good. Okoro, as many of you know, was on my no-draft list, but he seems be quickly intent on shutting my mouth up, hes going to be one of the top defensive weapons in the league for a long time. Sacramento Kings Bruno Fernando Not a lot to choose from here, but Bruno is speedy for most big men and plays hard so hes a great guy to choose from, not much for prospects, this Klemm guy. Orlando Magic Josh Green Hes a guy most people really like at draft time and seems like a perfect 3-n-D prospect for the league, however hasnt had a lot of opportunity to show what he can do, he might be good too. Miami Heat Dylan Windler- Im telling you, hes coming! The guy can play and shoot amongst the best just has no luck with his health and just cant seem to stay on the court. Houston Rockets Tyrese Maxey An athletic guard that plays with loads of intensity! Hes a blur and has been getting some spot opportunities while the NBA 6ers rotate players waiting for the playoffs. Hes good, real good!
Golden State Warriors Nassir Little Gotta go with Clays boy here since he payed a premium to get the guy. It seems like this is a theme around the league where people really like him enough to go get him. Little is an athletic freak and hes had a good game here or there. The bet here is that he can be more than that.
Memphis Grizzlies Udoka Azubuike - A massive 7-footer with 270 pounds to boot and GM Rootsey likes him enough to give up defensive ace Thybulle to get him! So that goes to show how much hes appreciated. Hes got a chance to be a great presence on a team that knows how to use an old-school style big with traits. Philadelphia 76ers Aleksej Pokusevski - Pokuuuuu, hes one of the most tantalizing prospects in the entire league. Sometimes you look and you watch the highlights and see a star. But also, sometimes you look and you see a dude that couldnt handle the leagues physicality. Hes fun though, needs to bulk, fast.
Toronto Raptors Daniel Oturu - Not much to choose here as Raps young guns are mostly already developed assets but Daniel is a great guy to root for, hes been overlooked a little bit and might just surprise some people next year. Chicago Bulls Nicolas Claxton An easy one for me, hes got great athleticism for such a big guy, is intelligent, can handle too if given the chance, although hes not going to need that for a long time in the Nets. Hes probably a long-time Bull. Indiana Pacers Carsen Edwards - Guy that had a great little hype coming into the league, has just arrived in Indy, but the guy just hasnt really gained any steam. Heres to hoping. Denver Nuggets Markus Howard - Not much to choose from here so Ill go deep 2-way player here. Markus Howard is lightning in a bottle, very quick and a jumpshooter, hes a microwave type of guy that reminds me of IT2, a nice find by Digga. Dallas Mavericks Chuma Okeke - Not much to choose from that I like in terms of prospects, but I guess Chuma takes the mantle and I know hes a very popular player around the league and especially in Dallas. LJs got big expectations for this kid. New York Knicks Alize Johnson Giving a shoutout to probably Smokeys favorite player and Im so pumped hes getting a real opportunity to show he can play. Hes a force whenever he gets on the court. Go watch him! Los Angeles Clippers Moritz Wagner - Hes still young enough and I thought he was already established, but clearly the NBA disagrees because he was released recently. Hes a big guy that can shoot and plays hard doing the little things you like for coaches so, I hope he stick long term. Washington Wizards Malachi Flynn - Im just gonna go ahead and say I almost didnt put this guy in because hes looking to come good way before any of us expected! Bane and Tillman also got consideration, but Flynn is another Toronto farm system gem. New Orleans Pelicans Patrick Williams - This has gotta be one of the easiest ones for me because it hits close to home for me. The guy is a real life Bulls player with the physical traits to be as good as he wants, but still needs development. Hes shown some flashes but is far from a finished product. Charlotte Hornets Harry Giles - Well, seems to be one of those teams that doesnt really like rookies and I took a look at Oni, which I like, but Giles still wasnt able to carve a hole for himself with a lot of minutes to show what he eventually could be. Despite not flashing the immense potential he had before the knee surgeries, he might still come good. Detroit Pistons Anfernee Simons - Top team, so not really a lot of prospects. Although Simons has already carve a consistent role around the league, there are still people that think hes got enough to start for an NBA team so still exciting. Lack of options here cause this selection. San Antonio Spurs Deividas Sirvydis - 6-8 but stands at a thin 195 frame prospect with some potential but hes probably trade bait for the 15 trades the Spurs are required to do by law in the future. Portland Traiblazers Freddie Gillespie - A 23 year old rook who just got his opportunity on one of the best farm systems in the league, the Raptors. Hes makes some eye popping blocks and plays tough. He looks to be a good bet to hit in the near future as a contributor. |
