NSL Insider - Premium: Tinder Deadline

by jessedunne, updated on Tuesday, May 11 2021, 08:09 am EST

You open up the NSL Deadline Day Tinder app. Who are you going to swipe left or right on (For all those older, happily married NSL GMs, you swipe right for yes and left for no.)

No one sets out to trade badly. Yet a few people have. So lets have a look at some of the deals that went down, the reasoning and justification behind them and who came out on top.

I am definitely swiping right on the Utah Jazz. Rookie GM Jase Pitts has done really well. He has a lot of assets when he took over that he did not what. The likes of Lowry, Love, Bog. He has managed to move them all and bring in a swag of first round picks. Perfect for a rebuilding teams. I especially like Love and Shamet for Iggy KCP and ORL 22 First. Great dealing. I really liked the deal with Indiana too, Iggy, Bojan and Barton for Blake, Okogie Nnaji and another first. The Jazz now have 8 Firsts on the books. Including 2 this season and 2 next seasons. The perfect recipe for a rebuild. I have swiped right on the Jazz. I hope we match. Maybe go out for dinner and drinks and talk about the rebuild.

Speaking of Indiana, I am swiping right on them too. They had a nice last 24-48 hours. They are currently sitting 5th in the East and have gone ahead and added playoff series winning vets for days. Iggy, Barton, Bojan, Eric Gordon, TJ Warren. That is an amazing core of vets to bring in to add to Embiid and Siakam. They also added Eric Gordon. Who hasn’t been great in the NBA this year but still has plenty to offer. The East just got another genuine contender. I am considering using my Super like on Indiana (For the married GM’s, you get 1 super like every 24 hours. Tinder claim it enhances your chances of a match by 80%, but I am personally yet to see the returns).

You only get a certain amount of likes per day, so I don’t want run out. But I am also swiping right on The Bulls and The Knicks. Two Veteran “Mature” GMs. On tinder you can set your age range. In the NSL world, Utah and the Jazz would be the 18 year old’s, where as these two, would be your more mature, 35-40 year old. When they pop up, you are still swiping right and hoping they can teach you a thing or two. The Knicks were apart of one of the bigger trades.

They moved Vooch, Plumlee, Gay and a first and a second for DJ, Middleton, Saric and a 1st back. I love this for the Knicks. They have such a well-rounded team now. From where they came from last season, this is amazing, they are legit the one to beat in the East.

The Bulls were in enormous cap trouble. But Merencio, the season vet managed to pull off trade after trade at the deadline to work the damage down. At one stage they were going to owe the league nearly 300 GMS (Would have been pay day for all of us). He managed to work that all the way down to 94. Amazing. They did it without losing any talent either. Hats off to both GMs. I am swiping right and hoping these two mature and experienced GM’s can teach me a thing or two.

Now, I have used up all my Right Swipes. I have to unfortunately swipe left on a few.

Lets start with The Lakers and Mavs. They had their deal vetoed (rightfully so too, it was an awfully bad trade) and then they both logged off half an hour before the trade deadline and were not heard from again. I know that Utah was furious as they felt they were close to a FVV Deal and LJ just vanished. These are all part of the fun of the fair. So these two didn’t do any bad trades pursue, but they didn’t get the trade they wanted down then fumbled the bag at the deadline. Better luck next year.

Klemm wont like it, but I have swiped left on him. He has spent the whole season telling us how great Bledsoe is, then just shipped him out the door and was quoted as saying “glad to get rid of him”. I also do not hate the trade he did with the knicks. But the knicks won it, so that means the kings lost. Klemm is like the opposite of the guy who traded a paperclip all the way up to a Ferrari. He has traded Lebron, all the way down to what looks like Buddy Hield and Vooch. The Kings look a lot like the NBA Magic of the past 4 seasons. Yeah, Vooch rocks, but it will not make you successful.

I will always back Klemm in, he his passion outdoes anyone else’s, and he loves this league. But I will be praying for him extra hard tonight and I think you should too. Matching with Klemm would be like matching with a girl who still is not over her ex, talks about him the whole night and then you just get a kiss on the cheek at the door. No thanks.

Best of luck to everyone going forward. Rosters are set, can't wait to see how it all plays out!
