2020 Record:
43 - 39 Season
Highlight: The Mavs
highlight could arguably be their lowlight too! The Mavs made the
playoffs, despite trying to tank the year out including making a trade for Kevin
Durant who was out for the year. This is a highlight because think of what they
could have done had they been trying? Think about what they can/will do next
year when they are trying, and when they have Kevin Durant back on the
courtalongside KPYeah Im scared too,as most of the league should be. How
healthy they all are remains to be seen and they might still fall into the Javi
void, but they were a playoff team even without trying. Season
Lowlight: So, is it a
lowlight when you WANT to lose, but cant lose enough to go lottery? Its
definitely a coaching failbut a low light? Ok how about this, the low light is
that they were still able to compete, should have pushed deep into the playoffs
and could very well have troubled some teams, but they didnt. They chose to
throw down that towel. It ended in an 8th seed finish which put them
in direct line of the Portland Trailblzaers and a quick exit. Tanking, even
failed tanking, is the low light. Best Trade: Mavs Send: Frank
Kaminsky, Amile Jefferson, Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and 2022 2nd round
pick Really good
trade this in my opinion. Got the best player by far, also two big men that
seem to have spots in the league or at least the upside to stick, for basically
a lesser shooter and a distant 2nd. Worst Trade: Mavs Send: Gary
Harris and 2021 2nd round pick Highway
robbery by the Suns. How do you convince someone to trade away a SG who is very
solid going both ways for a rental of an average at best big man? While, also,
sending a 2nd for Cancar? Yeah not wise. Other
Notable Trades: Mavs send: Trae
Young, Andrew Wiggins, Alex Len and Bobby Portis HUGE trade
for both teams general directions. The Magic wanted to try and save the season
and load up on some extra depth, the Mavs waited for this coming year. Mavs send:
Seth Curry, Justin James and 2020 1st round pick (Pick 17) Pretty
solid. Hield locked up on big cash and should mix well with KD/KP/Oubre. Free Agency: The Mavs
have one of the likely most sought after free agents this year otherwise
theyre pretty well set for the coming season and their hopeful playoff
success. For this reason theyll put all their energy into making FVVreturn. Fred VanVleet UFA,
but mutual interest in returning. Lock him up. Patrick Patterson
UFA, likely to let walk. Jerian Grant UFA,
low priority with the likes of Dennis and Fred around. Star: Who else?
The man carried them into the playoffs even against his GMs will! Kristaps
dropped 27 a night, 12 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2 steals and 2 blocksthats
insane impact on both ends of the court only rivalled by the likes of Anthony
Davis himself. Think of this being the #2 option next year! KP wanted to win,
and so the Mavs did. Throw in shooting splits of 57/47/85 and you are talking
the upper elite in the NSL. Goat: Could this
be Javi himself? Trying to go the tank but failing at that, in the same breath
also then setting his team up for a horrible 1st round exit when he
could have been up the seeding order and had more of a shot? The team wanted
it, the GM didnt, so the blame rests with the man above. Draft Grades: No Picks No picks for the Mavs, but they had Chuma Okeke redshirted last season
and now he has signed a year later. So, theyve got themselves a rookie 1st
rounder anyway! The Future: The Mavs
future is looking rock solid. Theyre competing now, but theyre young enough
to sustain that for a few years, which is going to be a problem for the other
hopefuls that are much older. How does one contend with a KD and a KP on the
one night, night in and night out? Nevermind Buddy/FVV/Schroder? Run and GUN. C: Kristaps
