NSL Insider - Team by Team: Los Angeles Clippers

by sheed36, updated on Tuesday, October 29 2019, 11:35 pm EST

First Pick
:

Giannis is sure to be the best player in any team that chooses him. GM Andrew had the first choice of the inaugural NSL draft and guaranteed their man. Giannis is able to dominate a game as an unstoppable force. The Greek is still to reach his peak and Clipper will have a huge job to keep him happy this year if you want him next season.

Giannis finished the inaugural season with 39 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assist. A complete bulldozer for any defense in this league. Unfortunately Clippers needed a lot more than him to move forward.

Second Pick:

The second pick of Clipper was the 60th. And they got Draymond Green with the hope that he would be the great enforcer he was with NBA Golden State. But luckily Clippers Green was quickly switched to Raptors by Ricky Rubio and Sabonis. Green spent part of the season injured and his ratings dropped dramatically to below 80.

Third Pick

On third Pick Clippers choose to get the third pick in 2019 draft. With this pick they selected RJ Barrett, from Duke. RJ became a great 2k player scoring 20 plus points per game and becoming the second best player in the team. He still has much to develop and will be the key to Clippers' success in the future.

Forth Pick

With the forth pick they went with another young pick, Collin Sexton. The guard spend most of the season on the bench scoring less than 10 points. He had a good development in his NBA second season but I’m unsure about his cellar.

Fifth Pick

Soon after Clippers spent his fifth choice on power forward Harry Giles. A high bet. Unfortunately Harry didn't live up to his potential, trapped in countless injuries and Andrew clearly wasted a pick where he could have caught some more relevant veteran.

Rest of the draft

On 7th pick Andrew wasted another risk pick, Allonzo Trier. The guy is not even in the league anymore. After this one Clippers looked up to the veterans, Dwight Howard, Rajon Rondo and Markieff Morris came to complement the roster full of young blood. A right choice at that time that built the team around Giannis.

GM Andrew

Andrew is known for loving to build his team with a good number of assets and prospects. What we are seeing is exactly that. The Clippers roster is the 5th youngest and I imagine Andrew will keep it that way. I imagine it's even one of his strategies, if everything goes wrong with Giannis Antetokounmpo, to exchange him in the middle of the season for other young players and picks.

Clippers in 10 years?

Andrew is an amazing GM and Clippers are in good hands for now. His major test is going to be how he will be able to keep Giannis in his team for another contract. Giannis has already shown signs of dissatisfaction in the NBA and many rumors already point to his departure if Bucks is not successful this season. In the NSL the destination seems to be the same. With Free Agency madness Giannis' decision could take Los Angeles out of the best in the West. In 10 years Clippers will be seen as the franchise of one of the biggest players in the league? We will only know this next season.
