51-31 (5th Seed)

Season highlight:
A dominant series one shellacking (4-1) of the higher seeded Clippers. Keep in mind this is with the leagues MVP in Giannis and on the heels of a controversial trade involving two young stars in Jokic and KAT that went through pretty much at the trade deadline. KAT dropped 24/12/4/2/2 in that series and after stealing a game on the road they ran away with it coming back to home court winning 3 in a row with an average winning margin of 11.6 Points. They were super active all year and copped a bit of flack and and there for their revolving door of superstars but they for sure made the better deal more often then not and have set themselves up well and truly for this coming season.

Season lowlight:
The poppin' bottles, cigars and celebrations didn't last long as they got absolutely humiliated in the second round against eventual champs the Portland Trailblazers. It was a real "welcome to the NLL moment" as JJ was lighting the Discord channels on fire and was the one behind their whole campaign with all the momentum in the world. KAT was kept to 19/12/3 largely by Harden as the primary defender and Beal saw his scoring numbers drop dramatically from 28PPG to 17 PPG when comparing rounds. They lost 4-0 and frankly were never close losing by an average of 22.75 points. The were exposed.

Best trade:

SA gets PG, Brown, Semi

Knicks get Roberson, Capela, D-Lo

I mean sure you could say the KAT/Jokic trade... The Beal for Brown trade or even the deal that landed them Butler For Brogdon and pieces. Personally I think this one was an absolute steal. I would probably rather keep Brown over D-Lo just straight up and to get PG as well? Damn man. Hindsight is 20/20 sure, we didn't know how good brown was going to be this year and D-Lo was pegged to have a huge year in the NBA. All that aside I think this deal is the best and set up the spurs for being able to make so many subsequent deals due to the value they got in this one.

Worst trade:

Bulls get Beal and Zeller

Spurs get D-Lo and Randle

Duuuude what are you doing man... You had KAT/Beal/Jimmy. You had the league trembling and you go do this. D-Lo is nice... Sure. You could argue perhaps he was a better fit. In the end he was moved on for Kemba and Randle for sweat fuck all really... Personally give me Beal over Kemba any day of the week. As a western conference contender this gave me great joy but as a NSL purist I thought it was one trade too many.

Other notable trades:

I went through all the spurs trades and there was sooo many pivotal ones. But then i remembered how many points you get for a TBT and thought yeah time is money so I'm just going to touch on the big ones.

SA get Bradley Beal for

Derrick Favors/Jaylen Brown/SA 2022 1st

Seeing as they got Brown in a deal alongside PG they used the insane value they got to use him as the focal point for a move to bring in Beal. Elite trading and although I love Brown and his upside on both ends Beal right not for the Spurs just made so much more sense.

SA get Jokic/Williams for...

Paul George/Daniel Gafford

Personally I probably would've rather PG, at least in game that is. Who knows maybe ill look stupid and Jokic will come out next engine and dominate. But seeing as obtaining Jokic was the reason he was able to nab Kat down the line is the true reason im showcasing this deal.

SA get Towns for...

Jokic

Spurs go bang. They pick up the best big in the game arguably next to AD. A guy they can build around and in game is an MVP tier player. I predict he has a big year next year and if the Spurs can follow it up in the wins column then whos to say KAT doesnt take out the award.

Free Agency:

They Currently have 15 roster spots filled but could clear 6 of them if needed. Crowder and Bell would be the only two that on paper would make sense but both would be a bit of a struggle to keep. They really haven't done themselves any favours only having 46 GM's at the moment. Yeah sure they don't have to retain any big names and their record will help but yeah thats not a positive.

Star: I mean this list could be 7 men deep but ill just say KAT as he was the best player for them when it mattered and the one who will lead them into the future. He had averages of 25.8/13.4/3.3/1.3/1.2 in a limited stint for the Spurs last year but there's no reason he cant match or even beat that next year.

GOAT:

I would say GM Nels quick trigger finger shooting his shot with no thought or remorse at times could be his undoing. Sure it worked out for the best last season all things considered but when the chips are down will he be the one to throw them off their course with some brash decision making?

Draft Grades: lol...

The Future:

Well... KAT obviously. 7 of their 8 players currently signed on are over the age of 27 so the time is now and all future endeavours will just be riding out Kemba and Jimmys prime and replacing them with solid talent to build around KAT for the next decade.
