NSL Insider - Clippers - Spurs Review by jessedunne, updated on Tuesday, May 05 2020, 08:03 am EST Well, my predictions were wrong. I had the Clips winning in 7. The Spurs ended up moving on in 5. Pretty comfortable wins in the end, however the series was toughly contested the entire way. It might be silly to say, but Giannis probably wasn’t as dominate as he needed to be. He averaged 35 11 & 6, which is absolutely phenomenal. But the eye test showed maybe he wasn’t as dominate as the Clips needed. The Spurs were lead, as usual, by their consistency and evenness. 2 guys averaging over 24 points a game is great and 2 more in the teens, meant the load was evenly spread. And in the end, it was too much for The Clips to handle. The Spurs also dominated the boards. Sabonis is a great player in the NBA but Andrew cant seem to unlock his full potential in the NSL yet and he was completely outplayed by Steve Adams.  The Clips have the best player in the league. And then a few nice young players. They have a bright future. Perhaps they need to build their team more around Giannis. It seems like they lack chemistry and Giannis just carried them, along with a great Rookie Season from RJ Barrett. Will be interesting to see what they do next.  For The Spurs, they move on to face the League Best Portland. Who had some difficulties getting out of the first round. This will be a fun series. 83% of expert picks are in favour of the Blazers. But that wont bother Nels. He will like the idea of being the heavy underdog, trying to cause an upset on his good mate Jmac. I think this one is a little more even than people think, I won’t steal the thunder of the preview write up. But I definitely think that the Spurs and Nelson can make some noise in this series. I know Joel isn’t taking anything for granted and he knows it will be tough.  Congrats to Nelson on moving on and good luck in the Semi’s. Commiserations to The Clips. When you have the 1st pick you want to do better than a first-round exit. But making the playoffs is an achievement in itself and they will be back bigger and better. |
