Power Ranking - PR - The Teacher Edition

Mar, 18 (Week 14) - The latest Power Rankings have come in looking less like a ladder and more like a staffroom five minutes before a strike vote across Victoria. At the top, teams like NY and LAL are running their classrooms like well-funded private schools - smooth, structured, and powered by superstar “head teachers” who never seem to run out of resources. Meanwhile, the middle of the pack feels like a bunch of solid government school staff doing their best with what they’ve got - some days brilliant, some days surviving on coffee and vibes. Down the bottom, though, it’s full strike energy: chaotic rebuilds, missing pieces, and plenty of “we’ll deal with this next term” planning. A few teams look like they’ve already mentally walked out, others are stockpiling young talent like it’s professional development hours, and one or two are just waiting for leadership to sort itself out. If these rankings prove anything, it’s that whether you’re chasing a championship or just trying to get through Lesson 5 on a Friday, success comes down to structure, support… and maybe a little less chaos in the system. 1 (1)Rating 119
New York KnicksNY12-1

The Legendary Teacher: Runs the classroom like a championship system, with Kevin Durant as the alpha; everything flows through elite shot-making and calm leadership. Students succeed because the structure is built around a true superstar who always delivers when it matters.Everyone wants to be in their class - parent request!

Up2 (9)Rating 82
LA LakersLAL9-3

The Charismatic Veteran: Has the generational presence of Victor Wembanyama - students are in awe every lesson. The class might feel unpredictable at times, but when you’ve got that kind of once-in-a-lifetime talent, everything just works anyway. Think Dead Poet's Society level trust and respect.

Up3 (15)Rating 79
Charlotte HornetsCha8-4

The Rising Star Teacher: No GM? No problem. This class runs on vibes and raw energy - like a team without leadership still finding ways to compete. It’s chaotic, but exciting, and somehow the students keep improving without a clear voice at the top. Is it the teacher or have they been given the perfect class?

Up4 (17)Rating 77
Memphis GrizzliesMem9-3

The No-Nonsense High Achiever: A stacked classroom: Jaren Jackson Jr., Jaylen Brown, and Kon Knueppel-level talent everywhere. Expectations are high because there are no weak links—everyone contributes, and the depth keeps performance elite. "He doesn't let up, but he gets results," Alumni Student regains.

Down5 (4)Rating 76
Washington WizardsWas8-4

The Underrated Planner: The reigning champs of the school, powered by Devin Booker and LeBron James. This teacher has already proven they can win it all- lessons are polished, confident, and built on experience and star power. 'The kids will perform on the day, you watch,'

6 (6)Rating 75
Golden State WarriorsGS9-4

The Creative Genius: The GM (teacher) completely flipped the classroom—from last place with no direction to a playoff-level group. It’s like a perfect rebuild: smart decisions, clear systems, and now everything clicks. Never stuck in their ways, they get results and shift to meet needs constantly. "I love being GM Daz's class!"

Down7 (5)Rating 75
Houston RocketsHou8-4

The Data-Driven Teacher: Built around a deadly combo like Tyrese Maxey and Nikola Jokic - speed meets IQ. Lessons are efficient, clever, and always a step ahead, blending creativity with precision. The spreadsheet and metrics have been calibrated to a T, why bother altering or tampering?

Up8 (20)Rating 73
Utah JazzUtah9-4

The Consistent Performer: New GM, new identity, but still anchored by Joel Embiid and James Harden. There’s structure now, direction, and serious intent. The classroom feels like it’s building toward something big. If anyone can regain this organisation's profile, it's Craig. "The class needed a new face and energy - we are so lucky here," current student reflection said.

Up9 (18)Rating 72
Orlando MagicOrl9-3

The Encouraging Mentor: From bottom of the class to thriving - this turnaround is all about smart, calculated moves. Like a team rebuilt piece by piece, this teacher has created a culture of steady improvement and belief. Even after leaves their class, they still have impact, think Coach Carter levels of influence. "GM Mailo just gets me,"

Down10 (8)Rating 69
Miami HeatMia8-4

The Tough Love Teacher: A balanced roster with Lauri Markkanen, Derrick White, and Jalen Duren dominating inside. It’s taken time, but now everything clicks - strong systems, physical presence, and no easy wins for opponents. No Nonsense - we play by the rules, we live and die by our philosophy - "GM PK is a hard taskmaster,"

11 (11)Rating 66
Portland Trail BlazersPor7-6

The Chill but Effective Teacher: Sitting on a war chest but still made huge moves - landing Anthony Edwards, Luka Dončić, and Cooper Flagg. This is a classroom with scary upside; relaxed vibe, but elite talent brewing. The type of teacher that lets you drive the lesson or experience, but mess with the trust, and pay the price. "Choose your own adventure!"

Up12 (21)Rating 65
Dallas MavericksDal8-5

The Specialist Expert: Riding a wave with a deep, versatile group - Deni Avdija, Jabari Smith Jr., Mark Williams, Deandre Ayton, and Jalen Green. Not perfect, but when it clicks, it’s seriously effective. The teacher that has found their niche. Don't put them in ART, they are a P.E teacher, and good at it!

Down13 (2)Rating 64
Oklahoma City ThunderOKC7-5

The Young Squad Leader: Led by stars like Donovan Mitchell, De’Aaron Fox, and Miles Bridges, this classroom dominates the West. Fast-paced, high-scoring, and driven by leadership that keeps everyone engaged. The up-and-comer in the ranks - they aren't jaded, and they have a vibrance that is both infectious and the rest of the school wishes they still had it. "Why can't you be more like CakeBandito!?"

Down14 (12)Rating 63
Cleveland CavaliersCle8-4

The Structured Teacher: Big changes - Stephen Curry injured and Scottie Barnes out, Desmond Bane in, alongside Julius Randle and Andre Drummond. It’s a reshaped system, still strong but adjusting to a new identity. Each move is planned. Assessed. Activated to the most minute detail - many changes occur, but the blending is effortless.

Down15 (3)Rating 57
San Antonio SpursSA7-5

The Old-School Teacher: A wild mix-Jamal Murray, an elite 2K-version Giannis, and swapping Trae Young for Jrue Holiday and Robert Williams. It’s unconventional, but there’s defensive grit and serious upside. And it's getting results. GM Nels knows the team he wants to craft before playoffs time. This teacher doesn't mince words - you know what you get when you step into the classroom. Think Whiplash.

Down16 (7)Rating 50
Milwaukee BucksMil7-5

The “Depends on the Day” Teacher: With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Kawhi Leonard, and Evan Mobley, this class should dominate—and often does (2nd in the East). But consistency can still fluctuate. Seeing them here is new territory - this isn't a good day to be with this teacher; "he smells like booze and Malboro Gold,"

Up17 (19)Rating 38
Philadelphia 76ersPhi6-6

The Overhyped Teacher: Always competitive with Jimmy Butler, Dejounte Murray, and Zion Williamson, but never quite breaking through. Solid, reliable—but still missing that extra gear. We wanted this year to be the 'best year ever', but it goes up and down. Injuries have hurt this team - "He's had so many sick days,"

Down18 (14)Rating 37
Denver NuggetsDen5-7

The Low-Energy Teacher: Mid-table vibes with Domantas Sabonis, Jalen Johnson, and Michael Porter Jr.. Plenty of talent, but the results (28–30 record) don’t match expectations. Not high energy at the moment, might need to get to the holidays to recharge the batteries.

Down19 (16)Rating 36
LA ClippersLAC5-8

The “We’ll See How It Goes” Teacher: Stacked with talent - Paolo Banchero, Jalen Williams, Cason Wallace, Trey Murphy, and VJ Edgecombe, but underperforming badly. The potential is obvious, the execution… not so much. "Have you read the planning?"

Up20 (23)Rating 36
Phoenix SunsPho5-8

The 'HOW MANY CUPS OF COFFEE' Teacher A total rebuild turned success story - flying high with Shaedon Sharpe, Kristaps Porziņģis, Grayson Allen, and Ayo Dosunmu. Still figuring things out, but trending up fast. Think Fry (Futurama) '100 cups of coffee' level impact.

Down21 (10)Rating 29
Indiana PacersInd4-8

The Distracted Teacher: So much talent - OG Anunoby, Cade Cunningham, Chet Holmgren, Mikal Bridges, yet struggling to get going after being near the top. Feels like a group project where no one’s quite clicking yet. He was the leader of most projects, but something changed mid-term. "I miss our old teacher,"

Down22 (13)Rating 28
Chicago BullsChi5-8

The Repeater: Loaded with talent -LaMelo Ball, Nic Claxton, Collin Sexton, and Franz Wagner—and sitting 6th in the conference, but the delivery just doesn’t always land. Like a teacher who explains things over and over, you know the pieces are good… it just doesn’t fully click yet. A touch of Mr Mackey - 'MMMMMkay'.

Up23 (25)Rating 28
Sacramento KingsSac5-7

The Almost There Teacher Led by Tyler Herro with strong support from Norman Powell, CJ McCollum, and Jerami Grant, this class has structure and scoring, but it’s still missing that extra push to really break through. "They might benefit from some additional help,"

24 (24)Rating 26
Minnesota TimberwolvesMin5-8

The Overcomplicator: On the downswing with no upcoming draft pick, relying on veterans like Anthony Davis and Paul George. It’s a classroom trying to do too much with too little flexibility - overthinking instead of simplifying. Remember the acronym KIS 'Keep it Simple!'

Down25 (22)Rating 15
Atlanta HawksAtl3-9

The Disorganised Teacher: An aggressive move for Scottie Barnes alongside young bigs like Alex Sarr and Donovan Clingan shows ambition, but it’s still messy. The talent is there, just not organised into something consistently competitive yet. "I remember I had my sheets here," while rifling through stacks of papers.

26 (26)Rating 15
Detroit PistonsDet3-9

The “Figure It Out Yourself” Teacher: Full rebuild mode. The GM has eyes on the future, especially with Ace Bailey drafted, but right now it’s hands-off development - students are learning through trial and error more than structure. 'Just get the smartest kid to explain,"

Up27 (29)Rating 3
Boston CelticsBos3-9

The Mood Swing Teacher Everything hinges on Jayson Tatum returning from injury, with Alperen Sengun holding things together. Supporting pieces like Ryan Rollins, Keyonte George, and Jonathan Kuminga help, but this class swings wildly depending on health and rhythm. One minute we are happy to be down the bottom, and the next we are making a meteoric come-back toward the play-in.

Down28 (27)Rating 3
New Orleans PelicansNO2-10

The Always Behind Teacher No-nonsense approach, but clearly focused on the future. A classroom full of young talent - Dylan Harper, Bennedict Mathurin, Jarace Walker, and Carter Bryant- all building toward the draft rather than present success. "How is everyone up to that lesson!?"

Down29 (28)Rating -10
Brooklyn NetsBkn1-11

The Checked-Out Teacher: Injury-riddled despite a stacked roster - Pascal Siakam, Karl-Anthony Towns, Zach LaVine, Jalen Smith, Zaccharie Risacher, De’Anthony Melton, and Gary Payton II. On paper, this should be a top class… but right now, nothing is functioning. "Why hasn't he retired already!?"

30 (30)Rating -27
Toronto RaptorsTor0-13

The Absent-in-Spirit Teacher 0–13 start says it all. Fully in rebuild mode - talent exists, but the focus is clearly on a major retool. Like a teacher already planning next year’s class, this one isn’t worried about current results. "Mr Dylan...the bell went...can we go?"
