Happy New Year in Philly

Philly Frills: 16/01/2023
Its been a
tough few weeks for the 76ers after starting out with a 10-7 record. Their
leading scorer, Andrew Wiggins, went down and the team if not for a 3-1 week
this past week, would be waning below .500 as a result.
The team has
had a handful of outs over the last few weeks, after starting the season pretty
healthy, and its shown in the results and line ups. Scoring is an issue when
DeAaron Fox doesnt seem to have the same kick he had last year, despite the improvements
to his NBA game, and hes actually scored less since Wiggins has been out which
is baffling!
The team has
had to rely on a defensive grit which still sees them average only 1 point more
against than the best unit in the East, and still a +1 point differential, despite
losses of 40-ish points occurring twice in the season and the record only being
15-14. Simply put, they stay in games in most cases and manage to strangle
teams when they win.
Possibly the
biggest test for the team is about to happen in week 8 when Steven Adams sits
out his first week of the season, joining Wiggins. Adams has been a monster
averaging 6.2 Offensive rebounds and 17 rebounds total and this has been a big
factor in keeping them in games. They are averaging 5 more offensive rebounds
per game than their opponents because of him. How will the team fair with the
sophomore, DayRon Sharpe, manning the middle while still missing their scoring
pop?
Thankfully,
it should only be a week for Adams, and Wiggins is due back for week 9 also.
The team has to ride through the week on hand though first before counting some
chickens and hopefully continuing on the track to push for a non-play in spot.
