Welcome to NSL End-of-Season Player Rankings. Top 10 Point Guards in the NSL Part 2, 5 - 1
This list showcases the elite point guards in the NSL/NBA 2K. These rankings are based on NBA 2K player overall ratings and analysis.
No. 5 - Damian Lillard - 94 - Dame Time, Lilliard though not much in size at 62 is a true showman. A highly competitive player that makes no bones about taunting opponents and backing up his talk with explosive scoring outbursts. He can snake through the defense and score on all levels. Be it slashing to the rim for a crowd-pleasing dunk, working magic in the midrange or dropping mind numingly deep 3s from near half court.
Lilliard is an unstoppable offensive player that thrives in clutch moments. He has a deft handle with the ball and is an underappreciated passer as he is able to move the ball while also minimizing turnovers. Not a true floor general kind of Point Guard. But can set the table in unexpected ways and help elevate his team. He could stand to improve a bit on defense. But at this stage of his career not much can be expected in that area. Dame is primarily an offensive dynamo capable of carrying a team as its number one option and playmaker.
No. 4 Ja Morant - 92 - Ja is likely the most athletically versatile player aside from Giannis in the league. Roughly around 63 and 175lbs he isnt the biggest player around. But definitely plays with a head-strong tenacity that is hard to match. A top-flight above the rim finisher, Morant maximizes his athletic edge and can often be seen going coast to coast for a breakaway jam or on the receiving end of all oops.
Jas teammates feed off of his energy and dive into getting open and helping each possession count. Jas playmaking is an integral part of his game as he uses his speed and IQ to vex defenses and find teammates in scoring positions. He is a little bit of a suspect 3-point shooter. But can get hot from there on occasion and blow games wide open. The only area of real weakness is a lack of defensive effort. But the skill and IQ are there for there to be major improvements in that area in the coming years.
No. 3 - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander - 93 - Shai is probably one of the most coveted players in the league. A 66 point guard with a lethal scores mentality. He has consistently made major leaps in his game each of the past 4 seasons and is taking full advantage of the limitless ceiling he has. SGA typically has 3-4 inches on most other point guards and though not much of a post player his overall size and strength level make him nearly unguardable to other PGs in the league.
With above average speed for his size and the ability to keep the ball on a Yo Yo. Shai can manipulate the defense from the perimeter for a few seconds and then dive into the paint for an around the rim finish or pull up for a mid-range jumper. As a moderately respectable 3 point shooter he can further open up his game by being a bit more consistent in that area. He is also a plus defender with active hands that can tip balls in the passing lanes and start fast break opportunities for his team. With a little more improvement on his defense its not a stretch to predict that he could possibly become the best PG in the league.
No. 2 - Stephen Curry - 96 Curry is the Grand Daddy Long legs of deep 3s. He is an effortless shooter that makes 30 footers look like routine layups.Steph can create an insane amount of offensive space as there is just no easy way to defend him. He has excellent handles and court vision and can yank and pull defenses in any direction he wants while finding teammates for easy scores or just moving the ball and working off ball for the chance the passing circles back around to him.
A patient cerebral player who makes few mistakes. Curry is able to pick his spots and punish defenses at will. Even though he isnt an above-the-rim finisher he does have a light touch around the basket for layups and can finish them even through contact. He has lost a step or two over the years, it hasnt really affected him because he has the kind of game that relies more on honed skill instead of freakish athleticism. He is also a decent help defender. However, he wont be locking anyone down in an on-ball capacity. Currys offensive brilliance more than makes up for any defensive shortcomings.
No. 1 - Luka Doncic - 95 Luka is considered by many to be a dream point guard. At 67 and 230lbs, he is going to be physically bigger and stronger than any other Point Guard that is manning him up. You add that he is a brilliant scorer and playmaker and you have a package that any team would want to build around. Doncic has a high-level game IQ and practically sees the game similar to Neo doing bullet time in The Matrix. That allows him to control the pace of the game though he is not much of a speed guy. His size and strength allow him to muscle his way around other guards and just pretty much hold them off while taking his time and letting the plays unfold. He is both an underrated and overrated shooter as he is prone to heat checks, but. He makes them as much as he misses them so you kind of have to live with it until he develops the control to not feel the need to do them at in opportune times.
Luke is also a stellar rebounder. Able to box out, wiggle and tip balls to himself, he can put himself in a position to control the entire play from start to finish. Luka has also improved somewhat defensively and is no longer the liability he has been in previous years. At only 24 years old he still has a long runway to improve in that area as well as further refine his amazing offensive game to remain the top PG in the league for the foreseeable future.
