NSL Insider - Premium: Most Exciting Prospectsby merencio, updated on Monday, January 17 2022, 08:57 am EST I thought this would be a fun exercise for us to look at the most exciting young prospect on every team. Hopefully didn’t forget anyone.
But what constitutes a prospect? Well, for the sake of this article I will be considering any player under 25 (to give a chance to late bloomers), however if your guy is already an established player in the league and recognized as such, he will probably not be on this list, but that´s just because I´m looking for prospects.
Atlanta Hawks Jalen Green – Lots to choose from here. An uber athletic guard that plays with loads of intensity and confidence! He´s a blur and has been getting some opportunities while the NBA Rockets tank their way down tee standings. He´s good, real good, I’m a fan!
Boston Celtics Jonathan Kuminga - I thought long and hard about putting Porter here, but I think he´s shown enough to me to be considered at least that he can do it. Nevertheless, I think he´s great, but Kuminga is where I go because he´s the more exciting prospect. A long forward that plays with tenacity and an underdeveloped athletic freak! He’s been better than expected, much better, actually! Brooklyn Nets Herbert Jones – HERB! I’m such a fan since college! This is a guy that´s easy to root for. The guy just plays hard, plays great defense and has great athleticism. He´s a guy NBA Pelicans loves to develop into a contributor, plus he’s getting minutes! Charlotte Hornets Devon Dotson – In much of a Craig style, only 3 players qualifies, and 2 are 2-ways. So I went with Dotson, which is a player I’ve liked for a long time now. He’s got great instincts and is still finding his way in the league. Chicago Bulls Nicolas Claxton – An easy one for me, he´s got great athleticism for such a big guy, is intelligent, can handle a little bit too if given the chance, although he´s not going to need that for a long time in the Nets. He´s probably a long-time Bull. Cleveland Cavaliers Davion Mitchell – Lots to choose from but this guy is the most exciting! Nicknamed “off-night” due to his ability to shut opponents down (play Bouknight SL clip). He is one of the cornerstones of GM Dylan going forward and he is a guy that believes in Davion. A true competitor who brings it every night. Dallas Mavericks Chuma Okeke - Not much to choose from that I like in terms of prospects, but I guess Chuma takes the mantle and I know he´s a very popular player around the league and especially in Dallas. LJ´s got big expectations for this kid. Denver Nuggets Ayo Dosunmu - Good team with a lot of prospects to choose from, Denver has it both ways. Although Ayo has already carved a consistent role around the league, there are still people that think he´s got enough to start for an NBA team, so, still exciting. Detroit Pistons Troy Brown - Not really a lot of prospects. Although Brown has been around the league a while and has lost some shine, there are still people who believe in him, just not in Detroit, since he is being sold for 5 GMs. Lack of options here cause this selection. Golden State Warriors Nassir Little – Gotta go with Clay´s boy here since he payed a premium to get the guy. It seems like this is a theme around the league where people really like him enough to go get him, based on his trade history. Little is an athletic freak and he´s had a good game here or there. The bet here is that he can be more than that. Houston Rockets Jared Butler – Although they have young players, I consider both Hali and Maxey proven already so I’ll go with Vitty’s boy and favorite in the draft process, Butler, who plays like a vet and has a well rounded game just like Vitt loves! Indiana Pacers Isaiah Jackson - A 20 year old rook who just got his opportunity on one of the best farm systems for big men in the league, the Pacers. He´s make´s some eye popping blocks and plays tough. He looks to be a good bet to hit in the near future as a contributor. Los Angeles Clippers Usman Garuba - The fact that so many young players have already established themselves as players in the league is a testament to this team´s scouting department. Think maybe Murphy or Kispert could be here, but the guy I like is Garuba, because he´s been underrated since coming into the league and he does nothing but outhustle you every time. Los Angeles Lakers Cade Cunningham – He is the future, the present and everything for this team. The talent pool here is kind of bare, but they have a lot of “what ifs” and Cade will need to be worthy of the ticket for that #1 pick and became a true superstar to take this team out of the hole.
Memphis Grizzlies Joshua Primo – Well, talk about trusting the NBA Spurs! Without a doubt went and got Primo and over the years, selecting Spurs players is usually a good bet, so it is tough to go against history. The consensus is that this guy was a “reach” but that doesn’t mean anything if the Spurs develop him just like Kawhi. Here’s to hoping. Jordan Nwora – Nope, it’s not Dylan Windler! Nwora is confident, shoots the heck out of the ball and goes viral with his crossovers from time to time. They have young players, but some of those are no longer prospects in my eyes. Milwaukee Bucks Precious Achiuwa – Taking into account that Evan Mobley is no longer a prospect but a reality for the next 15 years, I’ll go somewhere else. This guy has my eyes since draft night as he does what he´s supposed to and plays with motor, rebounds and has a little bit of touch too. Again, the farm system he´s on, NBA Heat, sure counts for a good bet on him to be good.
Minnesota Timberwolves Isaiah Stewart – A total turnaround from last year, with few young actual prospects to choose from. Now the young guns GM Ethan has, are blooming stars already so I will continue with Beef Stew, a GM favorite as the guy who can still be labeled as a prospect. He outhustles everybody and nobody wants it more. Be careful though, if you mess with him, he might follow you into the locker room for a mano-a-mano! New Orleans Pelicans Patrick Williams - This has gotta be one of the easiest ones for me because it hits close to home for me. The guy is a real life Bulls player with the physical traits to be as good as he wants, but still needs development. He´s shown some flashes but is far from a finished product. Also, got hurt this year, so hopefully he can return and continue developing. New York Knicks Alize Johnson – Giving a shoutout to probably Smokey´s favorite player and I´m so pumped he´s getting a real opportunity to show he can play. He´s a force whenever he gets on the court, a true old school rebounder. Go watch him! I’m still rooting for him to establish himself in the league! Oklahoma City Isaac Okoro – I´m just going to come out and say that Edwards is a star and that boy is damnn good. Okoro, as many of you know, was on my no-draft list last yeat, but he seems be quickly intent on shutting my mouth up, he´s going to be one of the top defensive weapons in the league for a long time. That offensive game has to come around at some point, right? Orlando Magic Jalen Suggs – Has to be my guy here. His career has not started well at all, with lots of inefficiency and inconsistency, which is expected for a rook. He is still so talented and everybody just needs to have a little patience. Him being in NBA Orlando will forever be worrisome, also the fact that Franz Wagner appears to be a real player doesn’t help either. Philadelphia 76ers Aleksej Pokusevski - Pokuuuuu, still gonna go with him because he´s still one of the most tantalizing prospects in the entire league. Sometimes you look and you watch the highlights and see a star. But also, sometimes you look and you see a dude that couldn´t handle the leagues physicality. He´s fun though, needs to bulk, fast. Phoenix Suns Saddiq Bey – The curious thing about this guy is that all GMs that have ever owned him, truly love his game and care about him. He is a guy that seems to do the little things real well and is a bit of an overachiever. He is the guy to watch,
Portland Traiblazers Austin Reaves – The rookie is a little on the older side at 23, but has truly played like a vet and has become a fan favorite in a hurry. He hit some important shots and looks to play smart every time he gets into the court. Sacramento Kings Chandler Hutchison – Not a lot to choose from here, but I refuse to put Justise Winslow, a 6-year vet over here, despite being in the cut-off age. Chandler is speedy for most wings men and plays hard so he´s a great guy to choose from. He had a couple of ok seasons and is now trying to get back into the 15-man roster. Athletic wing. San Antonio Spurs Terrance Mann – Gotta go with the “next Jimmy” over here. Despite being 25, I believe he is still rounding out and probably is one of those late bloomer guys that has yet another step to take, possibly? Toronto Raptors KZ Okpala - Not much to choose here as Raps young guns are few and either already developed assets or non-relecant, but KZ is a good guy to root for, he´s been overlooked a little bit and might just surprise some people next year playing in the farm system in Miami, you never know when a guy is going to pop. Utah Jazz Josh Giddey – Yes, I know, I know, but what about Franz Wagner? Lots to choose from here, but I´ll go for Giddey because he is the most exciting prospect, which is the objective here and his potential is higher in my book. Wagner does all the right things, but we all know that is boring, Giddey is a firecracker to watch play! Washington Wizards Xavier Tillmann – This is a thinker because Bane is quickly becoming a vet and does so much for NBA Memphis, but I’m going to consider him developed and go Tillman because I like watching him play and just contributes what they need at the right time. Just need more consistency. |
