NSL Insider - Premium: Know Your Rights!by Nenjabin, updated on Monday, March 22 2021, 09:54 am EST In most cases once free agency is over, the main way to boost your squad in the season is trade up a storm, accumulating assets and value and finally turning that into what you desire or a team need to propel you to where you want to go. Other times, you might get lucky in free agency in season with a specially good 10 day contract that gets converted or some such, but there is the other way that to get a leg up if youve been lucky enough to lock up the rights to a gem from the draft or previous moves. Your player rights slot. This week were going to have a quick
look into a few players that could be a boost for their respective teams this
year if they land themselves a full time contract. Boston Ike Anigbogu Ike missed his rookie year due to
injury and never really got a chance after that, but hes healthy and hovering
around the place now as the non-guaranteed guy who gets cut in the final days
of training camp/roster finalisation. So, he could find a deal sometime if a
team needs an athletic defensive big man who is still only 22 and has a lot of
ball left in the legs. For Boston, this would mean another young body and trade
asset in the locker. Charlotte Kobi Simmons, Deyonta Davis, Troy Williams Whatever else Nic did, he had an eye
for young talent and the Hornets have these 3 guys sitting at their potential
disposal because of it. Kobi is probably the best of the three
and hes averaging 18/5/6/1 in the GLeague this year, so hes ready to go. The
Hornets are a top East contender and a scoring guard could be a good piece to
have down the stretch if he lands a deal. Deyonta flirted with deals last season
but didnt land another this year, yet. But hes a big athletic body which is
exactly the type that they just traded for a handful of in moving out the best
of them, in Wiseman. He averaged 12/8/1/1/2 in the GLeague last season and
maybe some big man depth could be good too? Troy Williams got a couple of deals
near the end of benches because his 3&D style is perfect for the league.
Hes an elder statesman that could help a team right away if he lands a deal
and his most recent Gleague stint saw him average 20/7/2/2/1 proving hes too
talented for the Gleague and deserves another deal sometime, if age permits. Chicago Ky Bowman Merencio and the Bulls loved Ky but he
was on a non-guaranteed deal and got cut for the likes of JTA and Mulder in the
NBA which means hes a rights guy here. He was a nice 2k guy though and with
Eric Gordon continually getting injured, he could be used in the Bulls squad
despite not really sowing out in the Gleague this year with averages of 9/3/3/1
in 23 minutes. Dallas Wayne Selden Jr Selden was a scoring machine in the
minutes he played but fell out of rotations and didnt get a new contract,
leaving the Mavs for an international contract this year. Hes averaging 12
points overseas though and has a season high 22, so hes still go it and with a
lot of smaller guards, the Mavs might use another bigger bodied guy down the
stretch if he has an NBA out clause. Detroit Oshae Brissett Oshae is ripping up the GLeague right
now and has to be turning some heads in the process, so maybe he gets a call up
soon for the rampaging Pistonsjust what they need, some help! 19/10/2/1/1 he
averaged in the Gleague and has elite size for a wing at 67 to boot. He hasnt
really had a chance to shine in the big league yet, but if his Gleague play is
anything, he could help a team. New York Alize Johnson Alize is a favourite of Smokey and he
still owns his rights, even if he didnt get a new deal. Hes currently playing
for the Raptors Gleague affiliate and doing typical Johnson things averaging
17/13/4/1 as a billdog PF who can handle and shoot from deep. He man handles
guys around the hoop, which is why hes shooting it 57% from the field but 33%
from deep keeps defenders honest and means he can use his explosiveness and
handles to get to the hoop. I can see him being a Raptors special, and
therefore a Smokey special. Philadelphia Allonzo Trier, Louis King I may be a little bias of course, but
I am very high on these two guys and they both have looked the goods in the
GLeague this year. Allonzo Trier was someone I targeted
in the offseason directly betting on him getting a deal in free agency. I was
wrong, but he was drafted 4th by the Wolves in the GLeague draft and
basically straight away showed that he should not be only a Gleague guy,
flashing the promise he showed averaging 11 a night for the Knicks as a rookie.
He slowed down a bit after a hot start but still showed he could be a microwave
scorer and in 2k hes still rated as such, so if he could get a deal, he will
drastically help the 76ers off the bench. Lou King has been classed as too good
for the GLeague also, and funnily enough hes been playing with the Knicks
affiliate as they showed some promise in him. Through his play, he averaged
14/5/3 and 1.5 steals on 52/46/81 splits and showed he can handle, distribute,
shoot, and was happy to play a role rather than be a star. Just the type of guy
the Knicks should be adding and would help the 76ers also! Utah Ivan Rabb Ivan was a favourite of Tims and he
held him closely. He had some stints in the NBA but his being undersized seemed
to never favour him to landing a good deal anywhere. Hes still been in the
GLeague this year, but playing only 16 minutes a night, but still putting up
6/6/1/1/1 in that time and shooting it 56/33/77 displaying his rebounding
prowess as well as his inside/out big man style which is all the rage. The Jazz
may not being going places just yet, but they could get a nice boost if Rabb
again troubles the contract man in landing a deal and then works his way into a
longer deal. These were a few guys I thought were
influential for their teams possibly right now, not just stashes. Share some
news on your other guys! |
