Champions 2020-21
Let's start on a grim note. The championship looks decided, especially if we are looking at the betting trends. Portland opened the season at $2.20 to go back-to-back and with the acquisition of Russell Westbrook, it seems the season is a forgone conclusion with punters smashing them into an unbackable $1.02.
The value must therefore come from the rest of the contenders who are banking on a serious disruption in Portland to halt the freight train from reaching its destination. Punters are liking the look of the Eastern Conference contenders who don’t have to face Portland until the Finals. Though the odds are close, Washington have been backed into second favourites at a juicy $6.00. The Charlotte Hornets are the current third favourites, though confidence has waivered following recent acquisitions. One too many? If GM Craig works out his strategy, we could see their odds come in significantly as the season rolls on.
In the West, the Spurs are the favourites to upset the Blazers. Though the Blazers appearance in the Finals appears inevitable, you can still get a West upset for outside $6, which is supreme value. The Spurs are currently sitting at $6.80 while reigning MVP Giannis and Clipper boys are second favourites for the upset in the West at $7. If the Clips have a trade up their sleeve, they might be the only hope the NSL has at avoiding the whitewash.
The other talking point is the Bulls who are still outside $7 as punters await the return of Davis to sure up confidence. If they can get it together, they're a super value bet in this year's championship odds.
For those liking an underdog but with no idea who to pick, simply take the field vs Portland. NELSBET are offering a juicy $2.50 for anyone other than Portland to win this year. With so much to play out, this bet is WILD!

MVP
The MVP race is incredibly close as a number of contenders have genuine standouts through the first third of the season. Statistically, Giannis and KD are the front runners but win share being a vital factor means James Harden and Kawhi Leonard are well and truly in the mix. Will Leonard and Harden steal votes from each other? Will their blowout wins affect numbers too drastically?
There’s an incredible amount of value on this list. Steph Curry jumps out at $3.20. He has single handedly carried to Nuggets to one of the best records in the league while setting 3 point and scoring records along the way. The Nuggets might not win enough games to put his name into the discussion which is why he is not a betting favourite, but at $3.20 his numbers are worth a roll of the dice.
If Luka and the Hornets have a run in them, his name will be strongly considered in the MVP. Luka's numbers have been amongst the best in the league making him a value bet at $3.60. Other notables include the best player in the league Lebron James at a disrespectful $4.60 and Dame Time Lillard the best player on one of the best teams at an incredible $6.70. Get in early before this market is smashed to pieces.
Odds:
Giannis Antetokounmpo $2.70
James Harden $2.75
Kevin Durant $3.00
Kawhi Leonard $3.10
Steph Curry $3.20
Luka Doncic $3.60
Lebron James $4.60
Damian Lillard $6.70
Joel Embiid $8.80
Karl Anthony-Towns $10.00
Donovan Mitchell $11.20
Kyrie Irving $11.50
Jimmy Butler $15.50
Trae Young $18.00
Paul George $24.20
Nikola Jokic $31.00
To Win Division
There are a number of close races going on across a most divisions, making the odds on offer tantalising. The Atlantic has 3 genuine contenders for the division, with a quality outsider in Toronto. If you don't believe in NYK or Philly and think Dunne's not done, you can get his boys for the division at $2.15.
The Central Division looks like a two-horse race between Detroit (who should hold on) and a vying-to-be-healthy Chicago. If you like the Kyle Lowry is good, Pistons, you can get them still at $1.75.
The Southeast could be a coin flip as both Washington and Charlotte look like they’ll finish with impressive records. Punters are liking the young and exuberant Pelicans who are the betting favourite at $2.10, though they currently sit 2.5 games behind the Spurs. There's some movement away from the Spurs as rumours of GM Nels making significant errors in the trade room continue to bubble under the surface.
The Northwest is suspended as Portland will win that race, while the Pacific looks almost finished as the Clippers continue to win behind defending MVP Giannis. If you want a quality outsider in the Pacific, Golden State or Sacramento could be the answer. Pray hard though.

ROTY
The Rookie of the Year award is one the NELSBET agency knows very little about. Therefore, the Punters have a huge opportunity to exploit our ignorance with luxurious bets in this category.
Minnesota are 100% all-in on LaMelo Ball (the second-best Ball brother) and appear ready to invest heavily in his minutes as the second half of the year approaches. Ball's fiercest competition for the award appears to be James Wiseman who recently returned from injury and continued to put up numbers that put him firmly in the picture for the first-year award. Other notable candidates include Tyrese Haliburton, Anthony Edwards, Jalen Smith, Precious Achiuwa and Udoka Azubuike, who all have a chance at winning and odds separating them from their peers.
LaMelo Ball $2.50
James Wiseman $2.80
Anthony Edwards $4.10
Tyrese Haliburton $6.50
Precious Achiuwa $9.20
Udoka Azubuike $9.20
Jalen Smith $10.00
