NSL Insider - Premium APG Leadersby spudspace, updated on Monday, March 01 2021, 09:24 am EST In an odd NSL season where points seem to be everywhere, you would expect that the assists would be going crazy too. Sadly, this is not the case. Nobody is even sniffing a double digit per game average, but the top 5 are names you would expect. Coming in the top 5….. 5) Malcolm Brogdon – 8.0 APG Like most players on this list, he has been traded around somewhat frequently, however in this season, he’s been on Toronto the entire season. He was traded from the New York Knicks before the season started. With players like Paul George and Gordon Hayward to pass to, it is not wonder that he is coming in at the #5 spot. Malcolm has that rare combination of size and handles. His 6’6” frame is huge for a point guard, and it allows him to make passes that shorter guards are unable to make. 4) Fred VanVleet – 8.1 APG Fred has pretty much come out of nowhere to where he is now a border line all-star in this league. He has been with Dallas since the league started, and that is somewhat rare. He has upped his game to 15 ppg this season too. Another player that has some amazing teammates to pass to in order to help him get up so high in assists. He has Kevin Durant and Kristaps. Obviously KD can get his shot without a point guard, but Kristpas benefits a lot from a pick-and-pop style of game. These guys are helping Fred out, but he’s keeping them fed. 3) Ja Morant – 8.7 APG Ja is a 2nd year player who has been with the Pelicans since he was drafted. He has had some injury issues this year, but he is lightning fast and has the passing and dribbling ability to get anywhere on the court. His teammate Donovan Mitchell is clearly benefiting from his playmaking ability. Ja is one of those players that you think can get to another level in a year or two. He isn’t a superstar yet, but he is developing into one. 23.3 ppg to go along with his assists is impressive, but a superstar in this league is looking at 30 ppg per night. I expect him to get to another level in the upcoming seasons. 2) LeBron James – 8.8 APG Barely edging out Ja at 8.8 is LeBron James. This guy could be in this category every year, but the 76ers have him actually starting at point guard this year. A lot of years you see him at PF/SF/SG position, so with the 2k engine, this obviously won’t get as many assists. His team is a little older, but with Tobias Harris and Al Horford, he has some vets that can still get it done. He is willing his team to the current #1 spot in the East. 1) Stephen Curry – 9.1 APG Steph is still one of the best point guard in the league, if not the best. His Denver team isn’t as good as you would like to see, but he doesn’t have a lot of help around him. The fact that he is able to average 9.1 apg while on this team is very impressive. His best teammate is Myles Turner, who isn’t really known for his offense. Steph is actually the #1 rated player in the NSL right now, somehow averaging an absurd 43 ppg and 9.1 apg. He’s the best in two categories, that is INSANE. He alone is keeping Denver in the playoff hunt, and it’s very impressive. Steph deserves to be #1, and I don’t see anyone catching him as he drives towards an MVP season. |
