LMA to SA

The Spurs have pushed the chips in bringing Vetted big man Lamarcus Aldridge to town via trade with the Philadelphia 76ers. The 7 time All-Star was chased relentlessly by GM Nelson as a clear need for post scoring was identified in the lead up to the trade deadline.

The Trade:
Spurs Receive- Lamarcus Aldridge and Louis King
Philadelphia Receive- Naz Reid and Caleb Martin

The deal was presented to Philly ownership early last week as GM Nenjamin continued to push out their window with recent acquisitions. Outgoing Naz Reid had a short stay in San Antonio but was a regular feature in the rotations even starting in Week 9. Caleb Martin was discovered at the start of the season after consistently showing exciting play in a talented NBA Miami Roster. Martin and Naz will be missed, though they are believed to be slightly longer term prospects that will pay dividends when they're credited with the badges they deserve. While Lamarcus (if healthy) is genuinely perceived by Spurs management to be a difference maker in their 2022 title defence campaign.

San Antonio are now eying week 12 to be healthy and building team chemistry as they await return from recent acquisition Seth Curry, Nerlens Noel and franchise star Jrue Holiday

When asked about how he will delegate minutes, coach Pop had a wry smile, 'We're gonna find some minutes for Lamarcus. I've had the privilege of coaching him before and he's a professional. He knows his strengths and knows how to get to his spot. I think he fits in incredibly well with us this time. He has Jimmy and Lebron who can take the limelight and he should get looks purely because of their attracting attention from the opposition. Nerlens and Dwayne Dedmon can focus on anchoring our D while our guards create on a night-to-night basis. It's hard to know if we're the team to beat because our guys have played so few minutes together but we like our chances against most teams when we're playing our best basketball.'

Week 10 could not go fast enough for San Antonio as they run shallow rotations featuring CJ Elleby and co. If the Spurs can break event this week and begin filtering their talent back in the coming weeks, fans and organizational execs alike are excited to see the eventual product.

When GM Nelson was asked about the recent acquisition he responded, 'We're still a few weeks off but behind the scenes we are working incredibly hard to ensure our rotations work and our new acquisitions fit into the system. We see Seth Curry and Lamarcus Aldridge as important pieces on the offensive end as Lebron, Jrue and Jimmy have had to work incredibly hard to carry our scoring through the first weeks. Having help and guys who can score when open will only improve the spacing for our stars while on the defensive end, we should be able to continue business as usual. We aren't a finished product, it'll take time to hit our straps but we are optimistic that we can find the right balance as we approach the business end of the season.'
