For a perfect 4-0 week there sure were a lot of ups and downs (mainly in the season opener) for the San Antonio Re-Sims.

Opening week gave no opportunity for the defending champs to 'ease into the season' as the Spurs faced 3 expected contenders and the 'new look' Suns. Going into week one, the Spurs would open the season without Nerlens Noel, meaning Coach Pop would need to be creative with his lineups and give big minutes to a number of role players who were new on the scene in San Antonio.

On opening night all eyes looked on as Jimmy Butler, Jrue Holiday, Nerlens Noel, JaMychal Green and Mychal Mulder received their Championship rings. That's right, only 4 original members of the Championship team remain on the roster for the title defense, after a stunning offseason where salary constraints got in the way of the Spurs bringing back all the troops. It would seem management believe that those 4 plus Lebron and a few handy additions might be enough to get the job done again in 2021-22.

Game 1 - Spurs Vs Dallas - HOME

The drama was high from the beginning and the Spurs, looking nothing like their former selves, played zero defence, couldn't force a turnover and gave up point after point at the rim. They went on to lose... Twice?

The performance was so unSpurslike that an official enquiry was had unbeknownst to the Spurs head office. The findings were damning, the wrong sliders were in place and the Spurs were actually nurfed in both sims by complete accidents. The Spurs would get another chance at a fairytale opening night.

The team looked totally different from the beginning of G3, the defense was elite from the beginning and the Spurs were able to lock down Porzingis enough to hold onto a double digit lead for most of the game.

Spurs Win
 112-102
Player of the Game Lebron James - 34 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists

Game 2 - Spurs Vs Denver - AWAY

In a Game of the Week Showdown, the Spurs travelled to Denver to take on the reigning MVP, Steph Curry and his rising Nuggets. Denver, largely considered a Champion contender, appeared ready to start the season with a statement game and the defending champs were in their sights.

After jumping the Spurs with a hot start, it looked like the home team were going to give the fans what they paid top dollar for, a big scalp. At the end of the first, despite being clearly 2nd best, the Spurs had clawed the scores back to level at 30 a piece.

From there Dwayne Dedmon, Lebron and Jimmy Butler took over the show and it was a statement win to the away team. The Spurs rallied to another double digit win.

Spurs Win 115-99
Player of the Game Dwayne Dedmon - 16 points, 18 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 blocks

Game 3 - Spurs Vs Phoenix - AWAY

While on the road trip, the Spurs stopped over in Phoenix for a quick W. The Suns were the betting underdog, paying a whopping $23 for the outright win (according to NELSBET) and really looked to get some minutes into their young guns while trying to show spirit. The Spurs routed the young Suns, speeding to a 20 point lead early in the contest, then closing out the inexperienced Suns by 30.

SPURS Win 99-69 (dinner for two)
Player of the Game Lebron James - 22 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals

Game 4 - Spurs Vs Washington Wizards- AWAY

The Spurs concluded a massive first week and road trip with a blockbuster matchup against one of the few other remaining undefeated teams. Somebody's 0 would have to go and the Spurs were dreading a match-up against two of their former boieees Lonzo Ball and Karl Anthony-Towns. The big question for this one would be, is Dwayne Dedmon good enough to slow down an elite big man.

In a surprising opening, the Spurs asserted dominance over the home team. Lebron, in true old man fashion, whipped it out and smacked the young bloods around. "It's still my league young fella!" He was heard yelling after posterizing Aaron Gordon, a man known for posterizing others. After assailing to a double digit lead early, the Spurs extended the lead at every break before clamping the Wizards to 6 last quarter points in a defensive effort worthy of playoffs.

Spurs Win 106-74
Player of the Game Lebron James - 28 points and 10 rebounds

While there was plenty of drama in W1, the SPURS are happy to escape quality opposition with a perfect record in tact. The now look to a week welcoming back Nerlens Noel but with Jrue Holiday on the sidelines where they face Detroit (Finals Replay), Golden State Warriors, upcomers Minnesota TImberwolves and the Houston Rockets. W2 will bring even more challenges as the Spurs try to remain atop the Western Conference.
