Spurs Sign Several
Several Signings Came to San Antonio through the Free Agency, some surprising while others were courted heavily by front office.
"WE GOT OUR MAN!" An elated GM Nelson barked down the phone receiver as the Free Agency neared its closing moments. Noel, a key piece in the Spurs title run, had listened to offers from around the league but ultimately chose to return home to defend the title with Lebron, Jimmy, Jrue and co. "Noel is underrated. He's the key to the whole thing. If we lost him today, that would've been our worst fear." GM Nelson responded to the presser. While his numbers don't jump off the page, Noel is the prototypical PF/C in the uptempo guard/SF system that Popovich runs in SA.
"We saw a need to bring in talent but the best talent to bring in was the talent we had. We needed to be selective and bring back our most important guys. Drummond had expressed a desire to test his value and we allowed him to do so, while being completely thankful of what he was a part of, a Spurs Championship." Noel returns to San Antonio on a cap friendly 3 year deal worth approximately $27 million, with a the last a player option.
The good news didn't stop there as the Spurs also brought a stable of two-way support to play the key positions around the BIG-3 of Jimmy, Jrue and Lebron. The most exciting of the incoming signings are Rajon Rondo, Otto Porter Jr, Dwayne Dedmon who aren't superstars in their own right, but will play large minutes and bolster Spurs defence.
"With Rondo, Dwayne and Otto, we expect to be an elite defensive team, once again." Gregg Poppovich gloated. "Dedmon is as underrated as any player in the 2k engine. He's a menace defensively and a monster on the glass. Rondo will create for his teammates while refusing to give up points on the defensive end. Otto has been a high level starter in the league. We don't expect him to be a starter on a night-to-night basis but we're confident he can shut down and contribute to our offensive system as a plug and play."
The three players headline a super support cast that should see this San Antonio team contend once again as they try to defend their title this upcoming season. Dedmon is expected to join the starters while Porter Jr will play with the second unit headlined by young gun Terance Mann. Rondo is expected to be the veteran voice in the locker room who will run the offence when Jimmy, Jrue and Lebron are unable. It's rumoured that Lebron wanted management to chase Rondo as he knows the understanding Rajon has for the game. "Rondo is a baller, he's been a champion and played at the highest level for as long as I have. He sees the game differently and we gonna have some fun this season." Lebron smiled on media day.
