As The Deadline Looms...
The Art of trading and negotiating is a fine skill and one welded by the elite to influence and build rosters alike. This may surprise you but, the trading aspect of the fantasy basketball game is what I love most. Yes, it definitely plays to my most worst impulsive and irrational tendencies but it's what I use to make my mark and in turn, put together my dreams and pit them against good friends I've made over the years.
Each to their own but I like the communication aspect, the Bant's and just learning a little more about the blokes I spend a lot of time dealing with. Yes, I want to make my team better... And Yes, I'm ALWAYS going to be in win now mode... I can't help it, it's in my nature and if I wasn't doing so I'd lose interest and move on... But a sense of overbearing morality and general love for the league doesn't pay dividends to me personally while being done on the back of shady dealing and taking advantage.
Looking back over
the years crossing from the hallowed grounds of the NSL back to the painful
memories and scorched earth that is the NLL... I Enjoyed surveying some of Noob
Klemm's trades before he ascended into the smooth talking, roguishly handsome
individual you see before you. Let's take a look at a couple notable/favorite
moves made in my NLL tenure... We don't have both the time or need to re hash the NOT SO favorite ones...
1. Devin Harris/Dwight Powell for Tyson Chandler/Marcus Morris
Yeah... I know, To
be fair though that year Powell was killing it dropping 14/9/2/1/1 starting at
the four for me in an engine much like this years, that favored the
quick/athletic rim runners. Harris was a decent enough back up Guard at that
point and his shooting in game was solid.
Chandler was on the tail end but much like your DJ/Howard types, in game was
still a beast. He averaged 9/12 and 2 blocks shooting 77% a game and Morris was
emerging as a solid rotational wing after leaving the NBA Suns.
- DJ for Ibaka.
This
was prime Ibaka years or at least the tail end of it. In game he was still very
much that guy and before he got a run with Petes back to back champs in the NLL
Cavs, He got a feature on the Kings... He's one of my favourite 2k bigs an over
the 7+ years I've had him on 3 separate occasions.
DJ is DJ but and if you think 2020-21 NSL DJ is OP then you aint seen nuttn'...
He averaged 13.9/18.4 shooting 71% for me and was a force to be reckoned with.
Another a big that has seen his way back to me and funnily enough now and then
Smokey was my trade partner as he both traded him and has now aqquired him.
The long laundry
list of players that have thrown on a Kings jersey is far to long to detail
here but a few names that headline it;
Boban.
...Lebron, Victor Oladipo, Vuce, Siakam, Bogdan, Clarkson, Holmes, Barnes, Ibaka, Boogie, Ingles, Bledsoe, Ross, Joe Harris, Buddy, Rondo, Fournier, DJ, Plumlee, WCJ, Milsap, Noel, Gasol and so on and so fourth...
That first season in the NLL under the careful eye and astute tutelage of our very own Benny Smith, I learned the 2k Sim fantasy game. I made 7 deals that first year and even though Benny hated every single one of them (They say he still does hate all of my trades to this very day!) it gave me a taste of what would eventually suck up majority of my time spent on here... This current year to date I've made 28 deals all up and have seen enough faces this season to fill out 3 full rosters. I can stop at any time though, I swear...
But if Benny with
his rock solid reputation and strong sense of morals was a representation of
the "Good" side or at least everything that upholds the integrity of
the game, then Jmac was indeed the Emperor himself... Palatine... Dracula... Thanos... The Joker... King Joffrey... Adolf... The dictator of the dark side. Bringing everything that embodies it with his annoying, condescending laugh, shady underhanded tactics and a general lack of empathy. I was drawn
away from everything that was good and pure and promptly consumed by a life full of
risk, cheap thrills and an endless supply of rotation players... All this while
Jmac looked on, cackling manically as yet another subject bent to his will.
All Jokes aside though, this is more of a self reflective piece looking at the
progression over the years and words said here in no way represent my thoughts
or true feelings for the boys that showed me the ropes... Except the whole
shady shenanigans and weasel like behavior thing by J-Mac. All of that is
unfortunately true.
Happy Travels!... And remember... "If it ain't 'all-in', you ain't guna win." #ALLINORBUST
