Make room for Broome

With the 32nd pick int the 2026 NSL rookie draft the Sacramento Kings select the senior out of Auburn, John Broome. Broome will enter the league as a 23 year old, standing at around 6 foot 9 with a 7 foot wingspan, weighing around 250.

He won’t blow you away with his athleticism and is a predominately below the rim player, mainly relying on his brains, strength and skill to be effective. He played centre at college, but that might be a tall order to do in the big leagues. I has shown flashes of stretching the floor and for him to be a reliable option that will need to continue to improve.

Broome has had a very successful college career, with his last season being his best and earning him the accolades of consensus first team all American and The Sporting News Player of the Year.
Although his numbers look great the fact that he is already 23 years old and played his full time on college was always going to make him slide in the draft.

The Kings were in need of another big, and with bigs being targeted across the board during the draft we were extremely happy for him to still be available at 32.

The dust has settled from summer league which gave us a taste of what some of these rookies can do. Broome didn’t disappoint. He showcased his skill and the ability to stretch the floor which is a big swing skill for him. He seems like a great team mate and someone that people want to play alongside.

It seems that for him to get playing time he will need to be able to slide down to the power forward position, which due to his limited height might suit him better. He may just have to work on his quickness, and not that he is overweight at all, he is strong and stocky, but he may need to slim down to get some more speed under his belt.

All things aside, The Kings are happy with their draft pick and feel they will contribute to the squad and are hopeful he can develop with some of their other young talent.
