Pick 39

Baylor ScheiermanWith pick 39 the Toronto Raptors select, Baylor Scheierman the 6'6 Guard/Forward out of Creighton University. A sharpshooting, hustle guy with an all-around game. Baylor has drawn pro comparisons from Christian Braun to Sam Hauser. Baylor finished his collegiate career as a selection of the Big East 1st team with averages of 18.5ppg, 9rpg, 4apg on 45/38/87 splits. 38% on 8 3-point attempts per game.

I think Baylor has the makings of being a steady NBA rotation player for a long time. He's a high-volume shooter with great skills able to shoot without needing to set his feet and can come off either side of a screen, has a fast and high release point and can shoot from well beyond the NBA 3-point line. He has an NBA ready skillset he can shoot, handle and pass and has decent touch at the rim despite a low volume of attempts he finished at 58% on shots at the rim. He's an old rookie coming in at 24 which is perfect for the makeup of this team being a team aiming for contention with some big names coming to Toronto to be revealed in another article.

He has some pretty impressive records to his name in his time in college he's the 1st men's player in NCAA division 1 history with at least 2000 points (2,233), 1000 rebounds (1,256), 500 steals (580) and 300 made threes (356) with 1140 defensive rebounds being the most by any player in the last 25 years. As well as unless you've done a deep dive on him you may be unaware that he was also a starting QB for his high school team where he threw for nearly 4000 yards and broke the Nebraska state record with 59 passing touchdowns as well as leading his team to a championship. This gives me good belief that he's not going to be scared of contact and that vision and ability to hit a pass will be throwing dimes in that loaded Celtics team when he gets given a chance.

Do I wish he was faster and better defensively? Of course, but we're talking about a role player here. There's got to be some give and take to their strengths and weaknesses. It really depends what 2k do with him off launch, but I can see him potentially slotting into my starting unit at times depending on that weeks matchups.
