Raptors FA Day breakdown
A bit of a different day for me this year, I am normally all in on 1 player and drop a 99 to secure them and then attempt to fill out the rest of the roster with small bids or even zero bids. This year I went with the approach of risking some guys and spreading my points around to guarantee I fill the requirements for a legal roster.
We did have a main target we'd been looking at for weeks being Tre Jones who has started HOT for the Chicago Bulls 13/4/5 with 2 steals a game and shooting lights out 49/40/87. I was planning to drop a good number of points on Tre but considering he came up so early I took the risk that no one would want to use their MLE this early as there was still more popular MLE targets and 99 targets in the pool. Surprisingly this bid went completely uncontested and we brought our main guy in for 1gm point!
Headed into FA we had 3 injured PFs the Obi news that he was out until February was the final straw for me to just move them and try to fill the PF position during the day. With the move of Obi Toppin, Brandon Clarke (both players were originally intended to be traded to Toronto during FA) and the swap rights to our 2030 1st we brought in Andrew Wiggins and while this did have a benefit of upgrading a starting position it also left us desperate for any PF eligible players as only rookie Adou Thiero who is also currently injured could play the 4. The idea being to just get any PF eligible player available but also not drop big points on hot targets like Horford (who got a 99), Precious Achiuwa or Larry Nance Jr. Walking out of FA with 2 rotational level PFs in Marvin Bagley (2k glitch) and Sandro Mamu who is also having a hot start to the NBA year for the Toronto Raptors was a huge win for the day.
