Woof! What an Awful Start
A mostly down start to the season sees Golden State at the bottom of the standings after four weeks.
This isn't exactly how I planned for things to play out. The roster is stretched pretty thin so that one "star" player missing time would really hurt the chances of winning, but I thought we'd win a couple more games by now. Khris Middleton is doing his part as the go to guy on this roster averaging 22/4/4 while hitting 42% from deep but there isn't a whole lot around him keep the good vibes going.
Big offseason acquisition, Max Strus, has been a steady all-around contributor but isn't yet making it rain from beyond the arc. If he can bring his average up a tiny bit from three, the Warriors will be more competitive in games.
PJ Washington was expected to really grab the reigns as second banana to Middleton, but has sputtered so far this season. Perhaps that can be explained by the requirements of playing a more defense-first position more often. Golden State may look to shake up their frontcourt as the season wears on. Could Washington be set to pack his bags and head for greener pastures?
The lack of height has really hurt us this season as we're outrebounded by nearly 9 boards per game. The funky play smaller, more athletic guys at center for good chunks of the gameplan may not be working but we're in too deep now to just give up. Coach Steve Kerr was overheard in one of the backrooms, off a basement corridor, in the bowels of the Chase Center saying "I thought these guys had that dog in them, but they're out there playing like some little kitty cats". Kerr has denied those comments saying he's never been in that part of the arena, saying "It's too spooky down there. Feels like the setting of a Scooby Doo cartoon".
The full rebuild rumors were kickstarted before the season tipped off as the Golden State Wing Emporium applied for a business license. Now that their operations have been approved by the city the grand opening can be planned with some saying a large piece will be sold once the doors open in Week 9.
