That Sinking Feeling
The more things change, the more they stay the same. After revamping the roster at the deadline, the Warriors have failed to string together some wins. Golden State has gone 4-8 since trading away Kyrie Irving and Jerami Grant, with very little to write home about during that span. On the season the Dubs are 23-50 so this current dip isn't really a dip at all, more so a continuation of the form that's kept Golden State out of the Play-In hunt all year.
Zach LaVine has done his best to steady the ship now that he's "The Man" in the bay area. Without LaVine, the Warriors would very likely have gone win-less since the deadline. That level of performance would have really put the new GM in some hot water with ownership. But not all is sunshine and rainbows around LaVine. His (and the coaching staff's) decision to hog the ball recently has caused some rumblings in the clubhouse. One All-Star caliber teammate, who wishes to remain anonymous, said to reporters "I know I can score 30 on any given night and I can actually defend elite scorers on the other end. Can Zach do that?" We've heard very few other teammates giving opinions that strong but there's a sense among this newly constructed roster that things should be going differently.
The front office seems committed to letting LaVine have free run of things and see what happens. The GM Burke was overheard telling one staffer "Zach is the only guy on this team that can get his own shot anytime down the court." If these words are to be believed, Golden State may be in for more growing pains as the team builds some chemistry and hierarchy.
This report has gotten the impression some of these new additions were brought in to flip again at a later date. If that's the case, we all can figure out why LaVine is taking charge and establishing himself as the clear leader of this team.
