NSL Insider - Top 10 Power Forwards NSL Part 2

Written by: CraigB, Welcome to NSL end-of-season player rankings. Top 10 Power Forwards in the NSL Part 2, 5 - 1

This list ranks the top 10 Power Forwards in the NSL/NBA 2K23. These rankings are based partially on NBA 2k player overall rating and my opinion on how they fit within an NSL team structure.

No. 5- Domantas Sabonis - 89 - Domantis is a throwback big, that is more than happy to get down and dirty in the paint. He could play PF or C at 71 and 240 lbs without much of a drop-off in either position. He doesnt have the absolute best footwork but he does show flashes of agility and timing with a soft touch around the basket and the ability to throw it down with authority when the opportunity arises. He clearly has a nose for scoring and can punish defenses with his shooting in the mid-range as well as from deep. He is something of a turnstile on defense showing little interest in blocking shots or being in the proper position to help. He does however have a knack for rebounding and can occasionally be dominant in this area attacking the defensive glass as well as the offensive boards as well. With his ability to score and attack the glass its easy to see why he is a top 5 player at his position.

No. 4 - Kristaps Porzingis - 87 - Everyones favorite Unicorn has seen a resurgence this past season. The 73, 240 lbs big man seems to have put his injury woes behind him and has regained a lot of the form he displayed his first couple of seasons in the league. Porzingis is a gifted scorer that can often show flashes of near-elite-level ability on the offensive side of the ball. Totally comfortable in pick-n-rolls, pick-n-pops, back door cuts or even spotting up in the corner. Kirstaps is a threat in set places as well as calling his own number off the dribble. He is a capable defender that has a tendency to rely too much on his shier size to contest and block shots. With that being said he is capable of sliding his feet in the post and making good use of his size when properly motivated.

No. 3 - Pascal Siakam - 87 - A true 2-way player Siakam is a lock as a number two on any contender with number one potential. Pascal is 68 and 230 lbs with slightly above-average athleticism for a big man. He can score off the dribble, post up or make a play for a teammate and when all else fails he has the IQ to not force anything and allow his guards to reset the offense for another look. A top-flight defender capable of guarding the post as well as wing players Pascal is more than capable of scoring 20 pts and locking down the opposing team's best player on any given night and will be ready to do it again tomorrow. The only weakness in his game is the lack of effort on rebounds. With his athleticism and IQ he should be able to carry a bit more weight in that area but does everything else so well you can kind of give a pass.

No. 2 - Anthony Davis - 94 - AD is an incredibly gifted athlete. The 610 Power Forward can sometimes make the game look too easy and other times you wonder if his head is in the clouds. At 253 lbs he has both the size and bulk to be able to bang in the post. He has great offensive instincts and footwork in the post allowing him to get any shot he wants in the paint. A willing jump shooter he can also score out of the pick-n-pop. Not afraid to call his own number he can occasionally get really cooking and take over a game. Once that happens with his size strength and athleticism. All you can do is hope his mind wanders and he gets in his own way to slow him down. On top of being an excellent offensive player. Davis is an absolute tyrant on defense. Defending wings and post players matters little as he has the IQ and physical gifts to adapt on the fly and completely disrupt the opposing team's offensive game plan. Anthony is also impressive on both the offensive and defensive glass allowing him to help control possessions and create 2nd chance opportunities.

No 1. - Giannis Antetokounmpo - 97 - Mr. Antetokounmpo is an uber athlete, akin to a Bill Russell 2.0 with a turbo-charged offensive instinct. Giannis is 70 and 243 lbs. He has the size of center with the speed and agility of a point guard. He isnt much of a jump shooter. But his athleticism is so much more superior to anyone else's. He can blitz his way into the paint where he has excellent touch around the basket and has been known to create some pretty iconic posterizing dunks. He is also an excellent passer out of the post so in the rare event that there is not a shot for him in the paint he can dish to an open teammate. The coaching staff has also been known to allow Giannis to run the offense for a few possessions here and there. With an excellent offensive IQ paired his next-level speed and agility he is a matchup nightmare for every team in the league. He is also one of the absolute best defenders in the league. Can guard any player regardless of position and still carry the number one option offensive load. He is also an elite-level defensive rebounder making him a near-perfect NSL player with a complete package of skills with slightly less-than-average jump shooting being his only weakness.
