NSL Insider - Premium: Everybody Panic! by jessedunne, updated on Monday, November 08 2021, 10:47 am EST The
NSL is back! How good. Box Scores to pour over. Sliders to complain
about. The general vibe is amazing. With 1 week in the books. It is time
to complete forget about all pre season predictions and to overreact to
week 1 results. Who was going to be great and isn't. Who was meant to
be tanking but has taken week 1 by storm. Lets have some fun.
overreact/əʊvərɪˈakt/verbrespond more emotionally or forcibly than is justified.
Lets
start at the top. The Blazers. Only lost 4 games all of last season.
4!! That is so amazing and still probably underrated. Joel lost 2 in
week 1! Half their losses from 5 months came in 18 hours in Week 1. If
they keep this pace up, they will be eliminated from the playoffs before
i finish this article. The season is over for the Blazers. Time to blow
it up. 2 loses in a week is unacceptable for this franchise. If you
predicted this team to go back to the Western Conference Finals. You got
it wrong, they are done.
Right
to the other end of the spectrum. The Cavs and The Bucks. At the point
of writing this, are both undefeated. Who would have thought. 2 of the
worse teams from last season. A new GM, in Daz, for The Bucks seems to
have done the trick. Dylan is as harder working GM as anyone. Simming
his little heart out. Rumors' are he has simmed against Gav and The
Magic 20 times this off season. Strange team to sim against, as the
magic suck. But it has worked. The Cavs have quietly been telling people
they can make a playoff run. They seem to be right. I think The Bucks
and The Cavs will be playing off for the Eastern Conference Title.
Speaking
of The Magic. 3 of the players now have Covid and are all sidelined for
the near future. Any normal overreacting person would tell you that
this means the entire squad, including Gav will now get Covid. Which
will lead to the magic having to fold. Gav leaving the league. Losing
his close friends and then his job and his house and eventually his
life. Such a shame, as Gav was a great guy. You will be missed my
friend.
Dallas,
the hard luck story of the week. Beat the reigning champs twice, yet
sit 0-4. Some incorrect patches, lead to some re-sims and in the end a
very tough week sees them bottom of the West. They recently traded out
FVV for picks and have been quoted as saying "We have a few good
players, are aren't a good team" Putting my overreacting cap on, Dallas
will trade Durant and blow the whole thing up. They will get a war chest
of picks and be happy to finished near the the bottom of the table and
reload again for another assualt on the top in a few years time.
Now
lets get to the hot topic on everyone's mind. The Sliders. They are all
anyone can talk about. We have gone from superhuman shooting and
scoring last season, with Nelson putting up 150 point performances in
the Finals (Which needed to be corrected, it was completely
unrealistic). To paid professionals not being able to hit the ring on a
regular basis. Where does the overreaction lie? Have admin overreacted
with the changes. Or are the league overreacting to a small sample size
of games.
Everyone
knows the incredible work that goes into the testing by the admin and
no one for a minute is making any personal attacks. But it is certainly
worthy of a discussion. I settled in to watch Memphis vs Detroit. 2 very
good teams pushing for the pointy end of the playoffs. Memphis shot 34%
and Detroit 28%. It was nearly unwatchable. Will this sort its self
out. Will GM's using new playbooks next week help with the spectacle.
One GM described watching games as "Stuffy". This is one thing we don't
want to overreact on. I am sure it will sort its self out, but it is
definitely worth watching and at this stage is definitely going to have
an effect on how GM's strategies and how they look to build their
Championship pushes going forward.
It
is fun to speculate and look at teams that have started well and teams
that are struggling. It is healthy to debate sliders and settings. We
don't want to turn into the old league. Where one person ran everything.
It is great that we have such amazing input from so many active GM's
and such hard work from an amazing Admin team. I am just happy that the
season has started and we have games. Healthy debate and commentary is
what this league needs to survive for many many years, which i hope it
does. Lets all keep it constructive and everyone send your prayers to
Klemm after his beloved kings dropped 49 points in an entire game!!
