NSL Insider - Team by Team: Orlando Magicby jessedunne, updated on Saturday, October 26 2019, 05:34 am EST I arrive at the address that Orlando GM GC6 has given me for our interview. It doesn’t look right. It is a dark and dingy building, just below a freeway. I park my car and walk in. Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard is pumping across the speakers. This is a strip club. I see Gavin with a Gin and Tonic in his hand and a beautiful girl on his lap. He waves me over with a big smile on his face. I have never seen a man look so at home. Reporter: Gavin, Hello. Nice to meet you. Are you sure we are in the right place? Gavin: Yeah of course. Why wouldn’t it be? Reporter: It’s a strip club.. Gavin: This is where I do all my wheeling and dealing. I feel it clears my head and I can make some important decisions. Reporter: Ok fair enough. Can we go somewhere quieter to chat (as Whitesnake’s Here I Go Again pulsates around the dark and dingy room) Gavin: And walk away from the beautiful Esta? (He gestures to the blonde on his lap) Not on your life. I pull out my laptop, resigned to the fact I am interviewing an NSL GM in a Strip Club. Reporter: Ok Gavin, what are your expectations for the Magic this season. Gavin: When I traded away Lillard, I was actually getting a lap dance from Karma over there, the red head. It obviously made my intentions clear. To lose a player like Dame is hard, but we bought back the best player in basketball. He is out for 12 months; however we trust our medical staff to get him right. So, this year is more of an establishing year. See who can perform for us. Hopefully make a few trades and bring in another superstar. Then launch at season 20/21. I hope our fans trust what we are doing. Stick by us this year, enjoy the growth of some young guys and then countdown the days until KD Takes the court again. Reporter: You spoke of young guys. Can you talk about who excites you the most from that category? Gavin: Fultz. Futlz. Fultz. That is all I have been talking about to the strippers all off season. They are probably sick of hearing it. I truly think he has worked his issues out. I am so excited to see what he can produce on a nightly basis with his teammates, his organisation and his fans behind him. If he can go close to filling his pre-NBA potential, then we have a good one. I have also been super impressed by Chriss. Another former high draft pick. He hasn’t had the ideal start to his career, but he landed in Orlando and since day one has worked hard on his game and his fitness. He is an athletic freak. We just need him to learn the ins and outs of the game. We still think he has a lot to offer this league. Reporter: You mentioned earlier, during the lap dance you got to Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams, that you are looking to make trades. What are some of the assets you are looking to move? Gavin: I won’t speculate too much on trades. However, we have a nice selection of draft picks and I have heard certain names like Aaron Gordon thrown around in potential deals. At this stage he is an important player too us and we won’t be commenting. Reporter: What would you say to the critics who would speculate that Orlando won’t make the playoffs this season, yet you still are currently only 3 Million short of the Hard Cap? Gav: Money aint a thing at Orlando (At this point, Gav uses his teeth to wedge a $100 bill into the bra of the newest stripper who has joined this intimate circle). Reporter: Interesting take on how the salary cap works, but let’s move on. I have one final question. What style of Basketball should we expect to see from your Magic? Gavin: We will be fun. Exciting. Young. We realise the trade puts us out of contention in a lot of people’s minds. But we just want to play a high paced game. Good defence bring that energy every night and see where that gets us. It will be great to have KD around the team. He can give us an amount of experience and advice that you just can’t put a dollar amount on. We are going to be a ball of energy for all 82 games and hopefully beyond. There is no telling what we can achieve if we all buy in and are all on the same page. I thank Gavin for his time. I politely refuse to join him in the champagne room for a show, as it is 10am. He is an eccentric fella, who clearly enjoys the finer things in life. But he is passionate. He believes in his Magic and the direction they are taking. I hope they can make a playoff run for his sake, however 2021 seems to be more their year. I take one last look back, as Gavin has his face nestled between a set of wonderful breasts, I think to my self. He is certainly not the typical stereotype of an NSL GM, but I feel like the team couldn’t be in better hands. Good luck to all Involved at the Magic and all their fans for season 2019/20. |
