NSL Insider - PP R2: Spurs V Pelicansby gc6, updated on Sunday, July 11 2021, 01:15 am EST Wow this is going to be a huge series, two General Managers that everyone seems to love going at it! or in nelsons case one gm that loves to hate him. Sorry this isn't a draft article either, cause i know the lottery and stuff isn't far away, but who cares really. The big dogs deserve their time in the spotlight. The Spurs dominated the second half of the year after the Washington Wizards GM had a stroke and traded his best player to nelson. On another note i dont think Nels has lost a trade for a while, he must just have a way with words or he has nude photos of everyone. I sent him my nudes voluntarily so its the sweet nothings his whispers for me. I wasn't even that aware of the accomplishments Nelson and the Spurs have had with a ridiculous 71 wins. They are not too far behind the never to be seen 78 win season of the Trailblazers. SO Joel has basically ruined the league for everyone, but especially nelson. Leeroy has surprised us all with his run this year. No one could have picked a 3 guard line up working this well, and all his main pieces are still really young too. So the pels are going to continue these type of seasons for a while. He has his hands full in this one though cause the Spurs are a powerhouse in their prime. But young superstar players are all the rage in 2k and this engine certainly agrees with the pels. So could the Pels shock the world Muhammad Ali style? In the 1st round the San Antonio Spurs absolutely pounded the Memphis Grizzlies with a sweep. Where as the New Orleans Pelicans had a bit more trouble, but not much, dispatching the Denver Nuggets in 6 games. So this could be a really juicy match up that hopefully everyone tunes into. Lets go through some of the notable players for each side. I hesitate to try and name the full line ups for a play off series cause im sure that teams will be throwing curve balls left right and center to try and catch their opponent off guard to snatch a few wins. But here are the big dogs for either side. San Antonio: Damian Lillard Hes already been mentioned earlier in the trade of the season. But he is the obvious key for the Spurs who in almost every game since he was traded to the spurs has been the best player for the game. Hes going to put up some big numbers and i dont think any of the pelicans guards can do a thing about it as for the regular season he is averaging 38 points per game. He wont provide a lick of defence himself but who cares when he can go off for 50 and win the game off his own hot hands. "Wont forget the things he mentioned, how to get a Larry (The chip) Whatever necessary, he tried to help prepare me They tell us, Never look in the eyes of a killer I did it out respect for the greatest at Staples Center The closest thing to MJ, and no I aint talking Thriller It aint an I in team, but a ME in it" New Orleans: Donovan Mitchell Mitchell has already taken another step forward during the postseason as a rising superstar for the Pelicans.Dominating for the pels when they were taking down the Curry lead nuggets after the season he had is no mean feat at all. He put up 35 points per game and 6 assists which is a beautiful thing, so im backing him to go big again and put some pressure on nels to make a few changes. Being the best player that I can be each day sometimes requires doing a lot physically and sometimes its doing nothing, Mitchell says. Its working hard and working smart at the same time. San Antonio: Jimmy Butler Jimmy Buckets has had another huge season and also flown under the radar at the same time. Hes the perfect compliment to every super star player in the league as well, which is probably why the Spurs are so good. He does a little bit of everything really well and pair that with some elite defence and you have a great player in real life and in the 2k engine room. Jimmy Butler has been described as one of those fiery and passionate stars. With an "old school" mentality and an unmatched competitive spirit, which if we see in the nect few games, hes in store for a huge series against the smaller guard lineup that the pelicans will roll out. New Orleans: Ja Morant Looked like he was going to be better than Zion in his rookie season, and while he may have tempered expectations a little bit, he is still absolutely elite in our fantasy world and looks like the perfect point guard next to Mitchell. Hes basically averaging 20 points and 10 assists so far in these playoffs and will most likely be the reason the pelicans win games, as he will have lillards non existent defence to exploit. Heres what he said his father said about him after winning the Rookie of the Year award. I think when I won Rookie of the Year, his message after was, Good job. You still suck. I mean, there aint too much I can do to, you know, make him say something positive. The Keys to winning for both teams are the role players around both their star players. The Spurs need their role players to be better, and they should because they are more talented. Drummond is still an elite 2k asset even though he really really sucks in the NBA at the moment. Covington is a defensive pest with good size and Jrue Holiday is just a great player. If you cant win with that then somethings gone horribly wrong. As for the Pelicans They have some great young talent as well, but they just might be a year off from really being able to swing a playoff game around. Mikal Bridges has made great strides this season and is a definite contributer to helping the pels get some wins this season but has he been rewarded in game enough yet? Robert Williams and Keldon Johnson have looked great at times, but they cant really hold a candle to what the spurs are bring off the bench at the moment. That brings us to the winner of the series. I think this one is going to surprise a few people. Really hard to pick when you have 2 superstars leading the charge who can win the game off their own back and i think that New Orleans will pinch a couple of games Im going with the spurs here though to win the series in a hard fought 4-2 over the Pels. Im sure this one will have a lot of different predictions though, cause im sure everyone will think the spurs win it easy judging by their epic regular season. |
