NSL Insider - Team by team: Golden State Warriors

2019-20 Finish: 46-36

Season Highlight:

Definitely one of the Cinderella stories of the season and maybe in the history of the league, which is why I love doing these so much. GSW was drafted as a team destined to be in the middle of the pack and when german GM MaiLo (first woman GM ever in NSL) sadly left the NSL because of time constraints, she left a big void and a team that was underachieving at the time. In come GM Titlesorbust, yes, thats correct and that is the name he chose and that is the name his mother gave to him at birth too, dude was born for titles.
Shortly after joining, the Warriors on the bottom of the league standings, he decides to trade his prized 1st rounder, some promising players for none other than Zach LaVine and the rest is history, as they say.
LaVine was a 2k stud like very little, put the team on his back and clawed their way in the 7th seed in the West. This is amazing!!!!

Season Lowlight:

To me, its gotta be the controversial trading. GM Titles isnt afraid to pull the trigger, maybe too happy at times.I really dont see it sometimes but the dude got results and that has value. He plays to win, another thing that holds so much value to me. So kudos there, my friend. In time, after the first wave of euphoria, I believe he learned how to pick his spots a bit more and say more no in deals, which is a sign of maturity.

Best Trade:

Again, a lot to unpack here so Ill not focus on every single trade, Ill look at the most impactful, ok?

GSW sends:
GSW 1st 20 (Achiuwa), 2nd rounder (Yam Madar), Goga Bitadze, Mcgruder, Solomon Hill
GSW gets:
Zach Lavine, the other Antetokoumpo

Talk about your home run, hoodwink or bamboozle, man! Keep in mind, at the time of the trade, GSW was a bottom 5 team. This looked like a page straight out of the Badwolf playbook of trading and that would result into a possible finish and the pick being great for the Buck, its why he did the trade. Just want to say its rare someone pulls one over badwolf, who run a tight ship. LaVine was awesome and made everything better.

Worst Trade:
GSW sends:
Jamal Murray, Alex Caruso, 2nd rounder

GSW sends:
GSW gets/;
Robert Covington, Shaquille Harrison

Alright this one hurt my head then and hurts my head now, just as much. First reaction is What? Sending Jamal away was not advisable and later in the season we saw one of the hardest things to do in any position, the change from good to great. Especially since youre trading a star to the best team in the league. This value doesnt add up, however much you like Covington. Kov is just not a great 2k player and he wont ever be more than a role player, not Jamal is better and could be even better.

Other Notable Trades:

GSW sends:
1st SAC 20 (Maledon), 1st GSW 22 and 24
GSW gets:
1st BKN 20 (Jalen Smith), 2x 2nds

This is called the Jmac special, throw a lot stuff on your face until you say yes. 3 firsts is just too much man. Im a big Jalen fan, but I dont think the Warriors are strong enough for the long term to afford trading those picks away. To me, thats mind-blowing.

GSW sends: Ibaka, Warren, Malik Beasley, 2nd
GSW gets: Horford, Kanter, Harris

Another trade that doesnt make sense from my perspective. Every single piece would that went to the Spurs I value much more than what they got, ya know? Plus a 2nd? This was the height and hype of trying to make this work, but much value was lost in the process.

Free Agency:

Isaiah Thomas - UFA - Still undecided if he will come back to the team or not, his camp has been radio silent. Sources say he looks ok in pick-up games.

Star:

Zach Lavine

Give this man a statue in Oakland for what he did single handedly turning around the mighty Warriors in the 19-20 season. LaVine is mustwatch because hes a top 1% athlete and can shoot out of his mind. He is one of the best heat checks in the game. LaVine, given rumors, is available for trades. Electric on the court. Does he have what it takes to lead a team to the promised land.

Goat:

Al Horford, I pay you 27 mil, and granted it was another team who signed you, but then again, this GM traded for you. In return you didnt not have the game to contribute to what you receive anymore, and that is a fact. Father time is undefeated. You are still solid and if he somebody needs help with there

Draft Grades: B-

Picks: Jalen smith, Tyler Bey, Nick Richards

This pick I actually like very much, Jalen Smith is a guy who seemingly can do everything, very talented and he will be the one to dictate to future generations if he was worth trading for or not. The fit with Jalen is a little strange with Al still there but he has time to develop. Tyler Bey Im not as high on as most people but he is as solid as they come, can do all the little things needed to win. I do like him, not at the point where he was drafted. Nick Richards Im very excited about, because this is one of those guys that can vastly outplay his draft status due to god given talent. Richards is athletic but raw and time will tell if he will evolve or not.

The Future:
To the Warriors fans, I would like to tell you that these will be smooth times and slo sailing, but thats just not the case. GM Titlesorbust will make everything in his power to be worthy of that name, he has proven that to me this season. He will make you laugh, he will make you cry and in the end you wont really know what you have. Thats how I feel about this team, I dont really know where to go. I dont think they do yet. Free Agency can help provide new pieces but this team will go as high as LaVine takes them. Ayton is another player, however talented needs to take that next step and realize his whole potential if GSW is to fight for all those titles. Its going to be bumpy, but damn is it going to be fun!

C: Ayton / Kanter

PF: Horford / Jalen Smith

SF: Terrence Ross / Isaac Bonga / Thanasis Antetokoumpo

SG: Gary Harris / Abdel Nader / Admiral Schofield

PG: Zach LaVine / Monte Morris
