NSL Insider - Kind of a big deal...

by KLEMMELO, updated on Thursday, July 18 2019, 04:03 pm EST

Way to early regular season awards…

Decided to make some outlandish calls and weak predictions (So that I can safely exit from them if they crash and burn) about the upcoming season. Some predictable... some it may seem like I’m just pointing at the screen blind folded or flipping a coin but just roll with it and enjoy the ride.

Why not?..

MVP:

Candidates;

Kyrie Irving (DET)- 31.1/5.2/6/2.1

Top of the East early on Kyrie leads the charge for the Pistons… 11+ PPG increase in this small sample size we know as pre season so we are able to grossly overreact to meaningless performances… Uncle Drew still balling but and he’s a sure fire favourite if Detroit rule the Conference.

Ben Simmons (MIA)- 28.2/7.5/6.4/1.7/1

The Wizard formerly known as Pistol Pete gets his young franchise cornerstone and fast tracks the process mere mortals probably face when in the same position… Whats that? Miami are already 24 games clear of everyone, seems legit. Simmons is 170m dollars richer and Miami are laughing at the peasants getting in their way while diverting shamelessly.

Kristaps Porzingis (DAL)- 24.5/11.3/4.6/1.9/2.7

You forgot about the Latvian Gangbanger, aka Unicorn, aka Zinger, aka “The Truth is out there” didn’t you… It wasn't a question don't answer because I can't hear you. O right 2k still have a strong affection towards 7 foot plus glitch players with an elite skill set who can do it all. Boban has just passed the torch and the Zinger comes back with a new knee and Dallas’ championship hopes on his shoulders.

James Harden (POR)- 33.8/4.6/6.7/2.2

The Beard. How fitting to find his way to Jmac and his band of Merry men. Second in the West but if you ask him it’s all attributed to the hopes and prayers of his supporters and maybe a few good moves here and there. Somehow 12 trades later they are arguably better and are in no shape to be picking up any bar tabs in the near future without having to waive half the roster.

Gianni AntetoKounmpo (LAC)- 30.2/9.6/7/2.4/1

Surprised? The guy who resembles an elite perimeter players skill set but add another 5 inches and double that in wing span, the meanest mug in the league, a charming accent which leads you to think he doesn't know any better and 7 of his brothers and relatives he wants to have try out for the team. Clippers may struggle to solidify a top spot in the west but his shear force and will on the court may be enough.

Anthony Davis (CHI)- 23/15.4/3.9/1.8/1.8

Merencio is back and AD falls into his lap. Underhand shenanigans aside after rumours of Merencio sending previously linked GM Daz (It's complicated) a get well soon card but no one remembered to write in it and now too much time has passed... And its awkward. AD looks like he could sweep half these awards but will need to mimic numbers put up by his peers along with the win column ticking over.

Lebron James (SAC) - 29.2/6.1/7.4/2.1

Yes he’s still in the league and yes its Tuesday somewhere… TACOOOO TOOOOOZDAAAAY!!!

Lebron must love his tacos because he has come back and tried to prove to everyone he’s not done yet. Yes the Kings have doubled down on his narrow window but the trade to bring in Holiday should complement him nicely. Stiff competition though as there are a number of guys not just on this list who might put up some ridiculous all round numbers.

"Hello darkness my old friend..."

6MOTY:

Nerlens Noel (WIZ) - 4/5/1.5

Bit of a roughy but hear me out… Noel will get some huge mins starting in place of Nurk and is the type of guy to just put up numbers. He’ll struggle, he’ll frustrate but he will be effective. When Nurk comes back he moves to the bench and plays a huge role for them as the backbone of their second unit. I could see him numbers being nicely bolstered by that time early on.

Rudy Gay (POR)- 20.6/9.8/2.8/1 in 29.6 MPG

Disregard the numbers because they aren’t going to reflect in Portland. They have Capella, Ibaka, Gasol, Bog, Bridges and O’Neal taking up mins at the 3/4/5. Gay is the perfect option off the bench, versatile and potent on both ends. We’ll see if Portland see that too.

Derrick Rose (SAC) - 16/2.9/3.2/1 in 21.2 MPG

Comeback kid anyone? Kings picked him up and surely no one for a second thought he’d be starting with the ball next to Lebron. He excelled off the bench and he will most likely stay there. Putting up huge numbers in limited minutes that aren’t padded or skewed by time in the starting unit.

Patrick Beverley (PHO) - 8.4/3.3/2.5 in 20.4 MPG

Suns are on the rise and are forming a legit roster. Pat Bev will be all over the place, starting at the one or two. Sliding to the bench and everywhere in between. He won’t put up huge numbers but he’ll make winning plays and be a huge part of the Suns success. A real hipster pick, number one all D baybeeee.

Larry Nance Jnr (MIN) - 11.7/10.8/4.7/2.6

The wolves just acquired Adams who is the unquestioned starting 5 man and will see a lot of time there without the skill set to really do much else. Is Nance the best fir or maybe Saric’ spacing might suit. Ether way the wolves will experiment and although I think his numbers are inflated he seems to be on the way up this year.

MIP:

Larry Nance Jnr (MIN)- 11.7/10.8/4.7/2.6

As above… If they figure out to play him and Adams he’s close to a lock… If not I mean I wouldn’t put it past him to still be in the running playing time in the second unit. Its the improvement on all fronts that impresses me.

Trae Young (DAL) - 21.5/3.3/6.1

Yes yes I know sophomores never win this and it’s an unwritten basketball law that they are banished from the discussion. But this kid may very well lead this young Dallas team to glory and will put up numbers that rival any guard in the league. If he can be Uber efficient and take that next step buckle up NSL fans.

Edrice Adebayo (DET) - 11.7/15/1.8/1.8/1.2

Ummm where did he come from? Seems like elite athletic centres who play their ass off, eat the glass for breakfast, lunch and dinner, a cool ass name and have speed ratings that seem ridiculous but are backed up are going to dominate this league. Step aside this kids going to lead the league in rebounds and may be in contention for DPOTY.

Nikola Jokic (CLE) - 25.8/16.1/4.8/2.3/1

Cleveland may not be home and hose rattling off wins like no ones business but they are a trade, twinker or Rookies bs luck streak away from climbing the east. Jokic has come out guns blazing posting career best numbers and his right about at the stage in his young career you could see him making that leap.

DeAaron Fox (OKC) - 21.3/4.1/5.4/1.8

So he looked like young Westbrook/Wade when the pre season started and he just blew by anyone in front of him. The Suns wanted to show what he could do and it seemed obvious once he was moved to OKC as to why. They have pumped the breaks on the kid a bit but if they can unlock some of that but keep him on point daaaamn man he’s a sneaky sneaky chance.

GMOTY:

Jmac

Always in the running. Will dominate again, makes elite trades and knows what his team needs. Quality bants and one of the most active among us he could get some love.

Pete

If he doesn’t win I’m not voting got him. The bar has been set so high for him that he will continue to strive to beat it. Finds challenges when there aren’t any, founder of the best pod cast show in NLL/NSL history (I will worship no false idols or cheap imitations) and Has Simmons so that’s nice.

LJ

Prefers not to be called Javi and for good reason. New league, new life. Dude can show everyone what he’s capable of and his newly found motivation to be involved will go very much noticed.

Sheed

Shred-tastic. Nicest bloke going round, cute phrases and sayings that make no sense and a guy who’s showed he can build a team. Another like may who’s allocated quality time to all leagues involved in and it’s appreciated.

Laddas

Playing possum on the side of the road as I slyly jabbed, mocked and prodded until I awoke the beast and remembered “O yeah this is the guy who turned Ariza, a second rounder, expirings and dream and turned it into a top 4 powerhouse franchise in like 2 and a half weeks… Shortly after he sweat talked Kevin Love from me in my infancy”… He’s a killer, people don’t forget.

Dunadan

The OG who championed this transition and helped a lot and will continue to do so with an inspiring motivation to make something great. He also had time to put together an elite team and will enjoy lighting the West on fire. He also… Whispered in my ear telling me sweet nothings as he left with Kevin Love

Merencio

The kid is back! Learnt from his mistakes with being a lazy pleb and seems to have pulled his socks up and wants to kick goals again for our great league. They’ll win games of course and he will be forever laughing in Brazilian, Claiming every single player coming through that are loosely connected to Brazil, peer pressuring me into drinking as pay back for unknowingly interrupting him on the draft night even after I’ve apologised multiple times.

DPOTY

Robert Covington (CLE) 3rd ranked Defence

Cavs have the third best defence so far and it’s on the back of a few blokes but Cov will lead the way. They will be significantly better with him on the floor and he will stuff the stat sheet in everything to do with being Elite defensively.

Gianni Antetokounmpo (LAC) 9th ranked Defence

Well he can do everything so I mean it’s not a surprise. Thought I could be edgy and leave him off but yeah nah I’m not ready for that kind of blow back. He will be up there in leagues leaders for rebounds, steals and blocks and will anchor their D with out without “soft serve” D12.

DeAndre Jordan (MIA) 6th ranked Defence

The other GM’s curse the sky in disgust as DJ fell in the draft while cries of “Where are the defensive big men!” Cut through the air. Whats that Pete? You want him for 4 more years for a third of what Whiteside is getting paid? No worries. Will probably lead the league in rebounds and will be the perfect big man to play with Simmons.

Kawhi Leonard (PHO) 2nd ranked Defence

Suns D surprised me… Wes, Bev, Kawhi, Murray, Powell and even LMA seem to be pretty good at stopping the round orange thing going in to the hoop. Kawhi is now the best player in the league especially on both ends. Look what y’all have created… I, for one, will welcome out new robot overlords. Baybeeee.

Hassan Whiteside (SAC) 7th ranked Defence

The Kings also surprise me. I acquire a good defender and my defence gets worse so I give up but despite constant trade talks involving Hassan it seems they have been halted probably due to the fact he is making this thing work so far. Will probably lead the league in blocks and will do his bit but most likely gets swallowed up in the abyss that is Lebrons shadow. I never thought I would say I need you Hassan Whiteside… and today wont be an exception, but Lebron said he doesn’t mind if you stick around so we coo.

ROTY

RJ Barrett (LAC) They have nothing to lose and have a few small guards. RJ can play 1-3 right now im sure and can be maybe even a sneaky second option behind Giannis if they figure it out.

Nickell Alexander-Walker (LAL) Steal of the draft. I’m just going to assume Greeny knew what he was doing and had a cork board with names, traditional boxscores and news paper clippings and plucked this kids name out. You had me at this kids cousins with SGA or whatever… They Call him NAW which sounds like a 90’s gangster rap group so I’m hyped already.

Zion Williamson (MIL) Well der… Hope the dude can stay on the court because 2k handed out the highest rookie rating ever with an 81 for this kid. He may come back to earth or I dunno he may be an 86 by seasons end. Of course bad wolf has him and he’ll get all the minutes he can handle.

Ja Morant (NO) Love this kid and the Pels have no clear backcourt decided on outside of Mitchell and these guys could play perfectly off each other. He at least will get an off ball gig or run the second unit and NO have nothing to lose.

Nassir Little (BOS) A roughy and I wanted to show some love to the Celts for playing out the metaphorical monopoly game we all set up, thinking it’s a good idea but 4 hours in and you fold to the guy who wants to keep pushing past 3am in the morning. The dude won’t do much in the NBA but Celts have no reason NOT to play this guy and maybe he shows us something.

To conclude I enjoyed saying a few words about some of the GM’s in the league! If you feel left out and need to publicly validate yourself by obnoxiously fishing for a few words on yourself then feel free to comment. If I missed your “boy” or you think I’ve overlooked anything again, cry for me…. I mean leave me a comment below. Your tears fuel by creative endeavours and in a way you will feel like you contributed as well with no expectation of being compensated in any form, GM point related or otherwise.
