Something in the water at Salt Lake

After a brutal 0-11 start Utah did not know what hit them. The NSL is a big bad world that is for sure. Currently 2-14 it may appear that things could be getting better in Salt Lake City. Winning 2 out of the last 5 matches does not seem so bad anymore, and you might even catch yourself asking, has Utah turned a corner?

The first Utah victory saw Lowry come through with the goods. He was clearly the best player on the court with 32 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds, 3 steals on 12/20 from the field including 4/9 from downtown and 4/4 from the charity stripe in 32 minutes of action. It was fitting that his performance earned him player of the game.

This win came against some quality opposition in the Memphis Grizzlies, who sit 5th in the very competitive Southwest division with a record of 7-8. Coach Snyder had nothing but praise for his boys, labeling it as a turning point in the season.

Three games later and the Jazz snatched another victory against the Los Angeles Lakers, a team that also finds themselves with the cellar dwellers. Lowry once again received player of the game honours with 20 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals on 8/12 from the field including 3/5 from downtown and 1/1 from the charity stripe.

Lowry’s presence on the court has clearly been noticed by the Utah coaching staff and his teammates, with Rookie Devin Vassell showing nothing but praise to his mentor and favourite player growing up. “Playing with Kyle is a dream come true, I never thought I would be able to learn from, listen to and play behind one of the best to ever do it. He is our leader each and every night, we go into battle knowing that he has our back.”

It seems Lowry may be likened to a fine wine, which only gets better with age. At 34, Lowry is showing no signs of slowing down, and is still demonstrating each night that although the wins just are not falling for his Jazz right now, the 6 time All-Star has plenty of juice left in the tank.

Utah is on the rise, watch this space.
