The Year of the Fox

Philly Frills: 4/06/2024

The 76ers season is over, but it meant a fairytale run finishing 3rd in the East and getting through to the 2nd Round of the playoffs before being stopped dead in their tracks, with no answer, for the Shai led Milwaukee Bucks. But that shouldn’t put a dampener on what the Sixers were able to achieve this year. They were met with the devastating news that their starting Center was to miss the entire season, days before the start of the year, which had many pundits suggesting they were dead in the water before it even started. But, they found way, with their platoon of solid yet non-inspirational big men, and on the shoulders of their franchise player, DeAaron Fox.

None of this seasons success would have been possible without Fox. He missed only 8 games on the year, and the team went 0-8 in those games, despite often having other star players available in those games. They went 52-22 with him on the court as he was unstoppable in his own right, but also lifted the team to different heights around him. The team make up just worked with him running the show.

In the scheme of things, the season Fox had will go down as an afterthought on the whole outside the franchise. He won’t win any individual awards. The team got bundled out in the 2nd round, and the questions will fly about how the team can better themselves for next year, more than looking at what he did. He averaged nearly 35 points with 6 assists and 3 rebounds, shot nearly 50% from deep and in the series they were expunged from, he was averaging over 40 before a “quiet” 30 point game to end the season.

So, in the wake of their most successful season to date, winning the division title and topping 50 wins, this one will be remembered by the 76er faithful, even if it won’t amount to much in the history of the league. This, the year of the Fox.

Good luck Milwaukee in the next round!

Thankyou sir! Fox was an absolute stud this season. Hope to see him on an all-nsl team
