What Are You, Quarter Guys?
The twenty-five percenters have, if not anything, been as consistent as possible this season. Another 1-3 week gives our lowly but loveable Dallas Mavericks four (4) wins after week 4 in the NSL. Again, par for the course. Injuries, of course, have been the bane of existence for the Mavericks. And, coupled with a long history of having no bench depth to write home about, the losses will continue to mount. This week sees veteran leader Gordon Hayward joining
Rui Hachimura and
JaeSean Tate on the injured list as well as youngster
Mark Williams joining fellow draftee
Nikola Jovic in the wear-dress-clothes-to-the-game clan. The loss of a good playmaker and scorer coupled with a good, young big man that can protect the rim may be the reason why the team breaks the twenty-five percenters streak this week.
Talks around the water coolers have confirmed no less that four teams are in talks with the Mavericks as they search for a capable starting point guard and some bench depth. At this point, anything would help. Some road blocks have been the unwillingness (surprise this time around) for the team to include any of their own picks aside from 2027's first and a handful of other 1sts they have as a result of past trades. The main attractions have been
Bobby Portis and
Landry Shamet. The team has already closed a few talks surrounding newly acquired
Saddiq Bey (traded for
Myles Turner and pick swaps). Simply, unless the offer stuns the team, they plan to use Bey as one of many primary pieces for the future. Portis and Shamet, on the other hand do bring an intriguing set of 2K skills sets that make them attractive to many suitors. Word has it that the team is in deep negotiations for both and a trade or trades may come within the next week or two.
